Finance Manager – British Wheelchair Basketball

Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
As the finance lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the day to day running of the small finance department, maintain accurate and comprehensive financial records, leading the management of data entry and the production of the management accounts. The role will be responsible for meeting strict deadlines, production of annual budgets and forecasts ensuring the integrity of British Wheelchair Basketball’s financial reporting and building on the financial systems already in place.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
ORGANISATIONAL
• Produce accurate and comprehensive monthly management accounting reports for budget holders and British Wheelchair Basketball’s Finance, Risk and Governance Subcommittee and the Board
• Carry out regular forecasting exercises as guided by Board requirements
• Liaise closely with budget holders to thoroughly check and challenge their management account activity and variances
• Supporting budget holders to understand their accounts
• Lead on the preparation of statutory accounts, annual budget and other financial projections
• Engage with directors and budget holders to build and maintain strong business relationships providing specialist expertise and advice to ensure that funding partner investment, financial management and governance compliance are effective
• Support the financial planning group and Senior Management Team with financial modelling and the development of a four-year forecasting tool

OPERATIONAL
• Line management and development of the finance officer
• Supervise the preparation of BACS, cheque and foreign exchange payments, ensuring they are approved in accordance with the bank mandate and/or delegated authority
• Responsible for accuracy of data entry for sales ledger and purchase ledger transactions
• Lead and deliver on the production of accurate and comprehensive management accounts in accordance with agreed work plans and monthly timetables
• Production of monthly financial narrative to the British Wheelchair Basketball Subcommittees and Boards
• Maintenance of management account reports ensuring consistency, high quality, relevance and usability for budget holders
• Work with budget holders in the production of accurate and comprehensive budgets
• Engage with directors and budget holders to build and maintain strong business relationships providing specialist expertise and advice to ensure that funding partner investment, financial management and governance compliance are effective
• Set up regular meetings with budget holders, providing advice, guidance and solutions to problems and issues, ensuring that financial policies and processes are understood and complied with in a consistent and compliant manner
• Responsible for managing compliance and effecting change on non-compliance of financial policies and procedures across the organisation
• Influencing colleagues and budget holders within scope of responsibility to ensure they are complying with all finance policies and procedures and provide guidance where necessary
• Supervise the production of monthly management account balance sheet reconciliations
• Supervise the preparation of the monthly payroll and annual P11d’s, co-ordination of all payments arrangements supported by Human Resources to the outsourced payroll bureau. Administration of new starters to the company pension, and any other schemes
• Supervise the administration of pension auto enrolment
• Oversee the day to day management of the company car fleet
• Oversee the Administration of Insurance claims
• Lead on the production of accurate year end statutory reporting ensuring that all the necessary yearend adjustments are made in accordance with the Year End Timetable
• Other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require

COMMUNICATION
• To liaise with the Chief Executive, Operations Director and SMT to understand tand contribute to the direction of the organisation.
• To liaise with debtors and creditors as required
• Engage with directors and budget holders to build and maintain strong business relationships

• Excellent communication skills – Communicates effectively, clearly and confidently in written, verbal and electronic forms
• Able to explain and present complex technical accounting concepts to a range of professional and administrative staff across the organisation
• Proven ability to understand, interpret and analyse financial data and research items to resolve issues and make recommendations as appropriate to proactively support management and allow effective and efficient achievements of business objectives
• Ability to successfully enforce compliance with policies
• Ability to effectively utilise information technology to meet team and customer requirements
• Demonstrate strong financial management skills

• Practical understanding of Government and National Governing Body Accounting Rules

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
• Experienced line manager who is visible and approachable.
• Previous management accounts experience with evidence of managing performance and development including planning, budgeting and forecasting
• Experience of problem solving and applying sound judgement
• Demonstrable considerable experience in a management accounting role
• Knowledge and understanding of diversity and of the effects of discrimination and an ability to ensure anti-discriminatory practice through others
Desirable
• A knowledge of working in sport
• Previous experience of management accounting within a National Governing Body environment
• A real interest in and understanding of sport
• An understanding of a National Governing Body of Sport

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION SKILLS
Essential
• Educated to degree level; a professionally qualified or part accountant.
• Computer literate, including Office products, Windows, Databases
• Strong written and oral presentation skills
