The Role
The role is a maternity cover post focused on activating our PyeongChang 2018 marketing campaign and the Team GB branding strategy in the UK and South Korea. Our PyeongChang 2018 campaign is in development with our appointed agency, but our ambition remains consistent; we want the nation to help inspire our winter athletes to extraordinary achievement at PyeongChang 2018 by creating an outpouring of support for Team GB, leading up to and peaking at the Olympic Winter Games.
Starting early September, the ideal candidate will have strong sports’ marketing experience, either directly within sport or with a related stakeholder or partner, experience in running fan engagement campaigns across social platforms and traditional media and brand management and development skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. The Marketing campaign and activation strategy is currently in development, so the role from September is preparing for launch around 100 days to go (1 November) and subsequent campaign activation as well as driving fan engagement across Team GB’s owned channels and partners’ channels. This involves driving and managing activation on/with:
– TeamGB.com and Team GB social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc).
– Partners – working closely with the commercial team to ensure our partners are supporting the campaign and ensuring specific activations are coordinated and complimentary of the campaign.
– Marketing network – NGBs, UK Sport, FCO, Government etc. Driving campaign activation via close working relationships with a wide range of marketing partners.
– Managing the agency relationship with our appointed marketing and PR agency. Provide day-to-day contact and strategic direction for the overall campaign and execution.
– Media partnerships – Generating content and planning media activations with existing key media partners ie BBC, Ocean Outdoor, Facebook, Getty etc. Working with the Communications team to identify new strategic partnerships in support of the campaign.
2. Working closely with the Fan Engagement & CRM Manager, oversee our Fan Engagement strategy via digital and social platforms, owned and earned, and eCRM ensuring that our approach with fans is on-brand and growing according to our annual KPIs.
3. Manage the quarterly brand research tracker to ensure we are on track to achieve key brand KPIs. Requires quarterly updates of brand research to key internal and external stakeholders. Drive post-Games evaluation report to inform 2018 strategy.
4. Support the commercial team with brand research, information and content as required. Contribute to and participate in new business pitches and meetings if necessary. Support sponsor activation development and delivery.
5. Support the Team GB licensing programme with marketing activities to deliver a robust and commercially successful programme for Rio 2016, with a view to creating a strong and promising growth platform for the 2016-2020 quad and beyond.
6. Manage the 2017 marketing budget within agreed parameters and protocols. Support the development of the 2018 marketing budget.
7. Working closely with our in-house graphic designer, roll out the Games-time Team GB creative look and feel across all Team GB venues in the UK and PyeongChang. Venues/requirements include, but are not limited to, kitting out, Team GB venues in PyeongChang including accommodation, Fan Zones in the UK, brand packs for each sport, social media content etc.
8. Support the Director of Communications in relation to the implementation and delivery of the digital strategy across owned and earned channels.
9. Development of sub-brands, including I Am Team GB – supporting mass participation event planning, general partnership development and activation for always-on strategy – and Get Set to ensure our youth engagement strategy is being activated across our 26,000 schools network.
Key relationships
This role involves a liaison with all BOA internal teams, external partners, agencies, stakeholders and suppliers. Close working relationships with the Commercial and Communications teams, and CEO to deliver on objectives. This role reports to the Director of Communications and will directly manage members of the Marketing team.
Candidate specification
A senior marketing professional with a demonstrable and strong track record of the following experience:
• 8+ years’ experience working with high profile brands at national and international level.
• B2C marketing
• Leading on campaign management
• Successfully implementing a strategy
• Management and motivation of a talented team
• Understanding of content production and branding creation
• Olympic related experience with an NGB or partner is preferred
• Budget Planning and Management

Candidates must be able to work flexible times during busy Games periods and events. Must have a hunger to learn and ability to flourish in a dynamic, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment. Must be able to work under continual deadline constraints.
