Advertising Manager – Modern Design Review – London

Modern Design Review is looking for a motivated and talented advertising manager to join our team. The position is commission based and would suit a flexible, experienced, freelance individual.

Modern Design Review magazine is a young, independently published, design magazine focusing on product and furniture design. We approach our subject matter in a fresh and creative way. Since our launch in 2014 we have received much critical attention and found a niche and loyal readership amongst the international design and culture communities.

The role of advertising manager is an important position within the small editorial and publishing team behind the magazine. We are looking for someone who will help us with strategy; allowing us to take full advantage of our position in the market, who is able to represent the magazine out in the wider world and who can approach this area of publishing with a fresh perspective and energy. Our advertising manager needs to be driven and effective – this is a commission-based appointment. But we are also looking for someone who can bring creativity and original thinking to the position in a way that is in keeping with Modern Design Review’s independent, alternative, position.

Experience within the design world is necessary. Experience within publishing or advertising management would be preferable but not crucial.

The position would start asap. Hours are negotiable, approximately one to two days per week.

Main tasks:

coordinate short-term and long-term advertising strategy for Modern Design Review
achieve minimum targets of advertising revenue per issue
manage relationships with advertisers
drive forward sales and creative projects with advertisers
seek and create opportunities for Modern Design Review outside of the publication; including events, promotions etc
work closely with the editorial team to achieve an innovative and creative advertising policy specific to Modern Design Review

Skills and requirements:

experience in, and a passion for, contemporary design
an interest in independent publishing
good language and communication skills
the ability to work well within a small team
flexibility; the candidate must be able to work remotely and follow the publishing calendar. The position would suit someone with an existing freelance schedule
the ability to forward plan and strategise
enthusiasm, drive, patience, tenacity
