An exciting and senior role has opened up on The Grocer – the UK’s biggest, most influential and most interesting business media publication – to lead our product and supplier news coverage.
Spanning the entire fast moving consumer goods sector (from alcoholic drinks to yoghurt via batteries and loo cleaner), you’ll be covering a wide range of topics, including consumer and shopper trends, product innovation, branding, ranging, pricing and promotions, category performance, channel mix (think: discounters and online), supply chain development, as well as key issues such as food safety, the environment and, of course, health and obesity.
You’ll also get to sample plenty of tasty (and not so tasty) food and drink.
But the emphasis is on understanding the market, and covering it dynamically, landing great stories (web first), and providing comment, blogs, analysis, features and reports, as well as news and profiles of important industry figures.
A strong track record in news, probably in trade journalism or business news, is essential. And it’s a given you’ll have the personality, curiosity and intelligence to develop and work senior-level contacts.
But in this senior role, you’ll also have responsibility for managing and mentoring a number of reporters, for editing copy, and managing some of our awards programmes. So you’ll need excellent editing and people management skills, and be hard working, multi-tasking and fast.
Finally, we’re looking for a journalist with multi-media skills, as you’ll be expected to file and edit stories for the web, use our CMS, and be able to exploit social media and other tools to maintain a strong multi-media presence.
The Grocer is the bible of the £180bn grocery retail market, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France and the US. We’re based in newly refurbished offices near Gatwick, with its fast connections to London, Brighton and the world (recent trips have included Italy, Thailand, Ireland, Singapore).
Tackling this hugely important, dynamic, fast-changing and high-profile market with passion and creativity, The Grocer sets incredibly high standards, and is a fantastic breeding ground for talent and great journalism, winning a number of awards in recent years. It’s a high pressure environment, with daily and weekly deadlines, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a strong career path, a competitive salary, as well as company benefits comprising:
A contributory pension scheme
Life Assurance
25 days’ holiday
Discounted gym membership
Free car parking
Season ticket loan (on successful completion of probationary period)
We can also offer the right candidate flexible remote-working options.
