Director of Marketing and Communications – England Squash & Racketball – Manchester

Job Description

Main purpose:

To provide senior-level direction in the development and implementation of a marketing, communications and commercial strategy.

Key responsibilities:

• To provide guidance and management to the Marketing and Membership departments
• Develop and implement a marketing, communication and commercial strategy that generates greater awareness and support for England Squash & Racketball (ESR), with an emphasis on the organisation’s mission and development offerings
• To manage the marketing of ESR, its branding, products, services and programmes
• Manage the delivery of ESR’s communications strategy
• To manage the relationships and contracts with external consultancies (for example PR, creative, marketing agencies)
• Oversee the content and quality of communications and marketing messaging in publications, marketing material, our website and social media channels
• To set, oversee and manage budgets for all areas of the departments
• Oversee partnerships and make connections that will allow ESR to achieve their targets and maximise opportunities
• Ensure all ESR activities are consistent in maintaining brand objectives and develop appropriate collateral materials
• Provide analysis and reporting on the effectiveness of ESR marketing, communications and commercial activities
• Manage our membership services and administration to increase membership and affiliation maintaining a high level of service and quality to members
• To work with our Coaching and Performance Department to manage where appropriate the communications of our professional athletes and England representation at all levels
• Supervise the Competitions & Events Department including the annual programme ensuring delivery of a world class service
• Oversee research and Insight to deliver high quality customer insight and develop ESR’s understanding of the squash and racketball market in terms of current and future supply and demand.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications:

• Educated to the equivalent of degree level in a relevant subject

Desirable Qualifications:

• Professional PR or Marketing qualification

Essential Knowledge:

• Has a proven track record of success in a relevant field
• A strong understanding of the implications and opportunities associated with the ongoing convergence of traditional media and digital media
• Has a strong appreciation of the key elements in the development of a customer facing organisation
• Has an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Desirable Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the organisation of sport in England
• An understanding of budget management
• An understanding of membership services and management
• An understanding of website development and management

Essential Skills:

• The ability to think strategically and proactively
• Must be comfortable interacting with media representatives, corporate partners and other stakeholders and presenting in public
• Expertise in all aspects of communications, including strategic planning and positioning, media relations, public relations, issue management, marketing communications
• Excellent communication, inter-personal and organisation skills
• Ability and track record of working as part of a busy team and working effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
• Accuracy and attention to detail/presentation
• Sound knowledge of digital and social marketing

Desirable Skills:

• Project Management skills/experience (competitions and events)
• An ability to support the revenue-generating and brand-building strategies of a major sport organisation through effective communications programming and personal involvement
• Solid understanding of data analysis

Essential Experience:

• In depth relevant experience in communications or marketing
• Has a proven track record of success in a relevant field
• In depth relevant experience in communications or marketing

Desirable Experience:

• Prior experience as a member of a Senior Management Team for an organisation
• Working in a Sports or Leisure environment
• Experience of Member Services Management
