One of the UK’s oldest published industry trade papers, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, is looking for a dynamic food editor to help shape and drive coverage of the pub food sector forwards.
The Publican’s Morning Advertiser is the number one title for the UK pub sector and we’re looking for a creative business journalist with an eye for a story and a commercial edge.
We’re looking for someone to get under the skin of the dynamic pub food market, understand what makes it tick, and shape our coverage to deliver a compelling product to the thousands of pub operators that look to the PMA for advice and guidance.
The pub food offer is changing all the time, and can range from the basic chicken and chips through to the giddy heights of Michelin starred excellence.
You’ll be joining a great team, covering a fantastic industry which sits at the heart of the community, a dynamic, evolving and exciting sector.
The food editor will be tasked with heading up our food desk, handling food related content from features and news through to study tours and online webinars.
The ideal candidate will quickly get to grips with the diverse pub food sector, from the basic sandwich on the bar to the Michelin starred gastropub, and will immerse themselves in what makes the sector tick.
The ideal candidate will devise an editorial strategy to move the PMA’s food coverage forward, embracing the print, digital and face to face areas the brand now encompasses, alongside providing new commercial opportunities for the PMA within the food sector.
Role Responsibilities:
Engage and understand the pub food sector to work towards devising a new editorial strategy to deliver a new direction for the magazines food content.
Working with the commercial team, seek and create commercial opportunities to deliver revenue growth alongside the editorial content.
Manage the day to day running of the PMA’s food content, both in print, online and through face to face activity, including writing news and features, proofing copy, managing direct reports and commissioning articles where relevant.
Working with the digital editor to ensure the delivery of newsletters and content in keeping with the PMA’s digital strategy.
Take ownership of the food sections face to face activity, devising, managing and delivering successful events, working alongside the brand’s events team.
Along with other members of the PMA senior editorial team, contributing to ideas and innovations to help maintain the brand’s place as the market leading title.
To represent the PMA at key industry events, acting as a brand ambassador for the magazine.
Key skills
Strong interest in the food sector, particularly in relation to the pub market
Multi-media skills – you will be as comfortable in delivering copy for print as you are in creating compelling audio-visual content for online.
An eye for a good story which delivers against the PMA’s core aims of providing key, compelling content to drive the pub sector forward.
A keen commercial sense, enabling you to see the potential for revenue opportunities be that through branded content, events or campaigns.
The ability to network with a diverse range of personalities from blue-chip company chief executives, all the way to kitchen porters.
