Chance to Shine is a national charity on a mission to spread the power of cricket throughout schools and communities. The charity takes cricket to new places and uses it to ignite new passions, teach vital skills, unite diverse groups, and educate young people from Cornwall to Cardiff to County Durham. Three million boys and girls in nearly 12,000 state schools are playing and learning through cricket today thanks to the Chance to Shine Schools programme. Chance to Shine Street is bringing cricket to thousands more, engaging young people in inner-city areas affected by youth crime. The Chance to Shine communications team is responsible for raising awareness of the charity’s work and organising a series of high profile events throughout the year. In 2016, so far, the charity has hosted a reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate Chance to Shine’s 3 millionth child, set up an ‘MPs versus Media’ Street cricket match and arranged school visits for England players Ben Stokes, Charlotte Edwards and Alastair Cook. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop their communications skills and experience to help build Chance to Shine’s communications activity across all platforms, raising awareness and interest in the charity’s work.
Overall role:
• help implement Chance to Shine’s (CTS) communications strategy
• design and implement digital media campaigns for CTS activity and events
• develop and deliver a content strategy for CTS
• help manage stakeholder communications
• help manage and protect the CTS brand
• maintain and build relations with traditional media contacts
Key responsibilities
Digital & social media
• help implement digital strategies to meet CTS’s business objectives
• develop, implement and maintain a social media strategy across all CTS activity and events
• manage and maintain CTS digital platforms and social media channels
• help manage the CTS website, using the content management system to ensure the website is kept up-to-date and fresh
• produce and curate content for the organisational website, social media platforms and offline publications
• recruit and manage volunteer content contributors
• build a tactical plan for video content
E-communications
• manage the production and distribution of e-newsletters and e-shots, including writing content and sourcing images
Events
• design and implement marketing of CTS events and activity
• work with the commercial and events team to promote key events
• manage CTS flagship events during Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week
Media relations
• help manage relations with national, regional and trade media
• help identify media stories, draft press materials and liaise with journalists
Marketing Collateral
• work with design agency to co-ordinate and produce high quality materials as required and manage the production process from concept to delivery
• oversee production of CTS promotional banners, posters, leaflets and other marketing collateral
Stakeholder comms
• provide press materials, key messages and act as the point of contact for County Cricket Boards, coaches and schools
• manage relationships with a range of suppliers including CTS official kit and equipment supplier, Gray-Nicolls
General
• manage CTS media monitoring service and online image gallery
• research, maintain and update media lists and stakeholder contacts
• plan and produce editorial content for England match day programmes
• implement and manage a communications forward planning system
• act as a point of contact and mentor for the communications volunteer/intern during their placement with CTS
• assist with other communications tasks as required
Person Specification
Essential experiences and competencies:
• educated to a degree level or equivalent
• minimum 18 months to two years’ experience in a communications team
• excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven record of generating great written content, on and offline
• expertise in digital communication
• experience of using a range of social media channels within a work/professional context
• experience of working with traditional media at national, regional and trade level
• ability to write news stories and collate information for e-newsletters
• experience of working with designers to produce professional materials
• experience of using content management systems to update websites
• knowledge and experience of Google Analytics and metrics for measuring impact of social and digital media activity
• knowledge and experience of search engine optimisation
• good knowledge of Microsoft Office
