Job Description
The Senior Marketing Manager is a maternity cover role being recruited on a 12 month fixed term contract basis starting October 2017. The post will support the Acting Head of Marketing in activating our PyeongChang 2018 marketing campaign and on the Team GB branding strategy both in the UK and South Korea. Our Campaign for PyeongChang is currently being developed with our appointed agency, but our ambition remains consistent; we want the nation to help inspire our winter athletes to extraordinary achievement at PyeongChang 2018, by creating an outpouring of support for Team GB, leading up to and peaking at the Olympic Winter Games.
Starting in October, the ideal candidate will have strong sports’ marketing experience, either directly within sport or with a related stakeholder or partner, experience in fan engagement campaigns and content marketing. They should be able to demonstrate the ability to work with multiple groups of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support the Marketing campaign and activation strategy, driving fan engagement across Team GB’s owned channels and partners’ channels, with a focus on content creation and athlete engagement – this involves supporting activation on/with:
– TeamGB.com and Team GB social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc).
– Partners – support the process of developing partner content activations and manage the implementation on Team GB social channels to activations are coordinated and complimentary of the campaign.
– Marketing network – NGBs, UK Sport, FCO, Government etc. Driving campaign activation via close working relationships with a wide range of marketing partners.
– Managing the agency relationship with our appointed marketing and PR agency. Provide day-to-day contact and strategic direction for the overall campaign and execution.
– Media partnerships – Generating content with existing media partners – e.g. BBC, Ocean Outdoor, Facebook, Getty etc.
2. Oversee our content marketing strategy for delivery on digital and social platforms, owned and earned. Working closely with marketing colleagues to ensure that our approach with fans is on-brand and growing according to our annual KPIs. Manage the production and delivery of content, including commissioning filming and content creation with our third-party production team and planning content capture opportunities with the internal team. Development of relationships, content creation and delivery across owned and influencer channels. At Games time, identifying opportunities for content creation linked to medal winning moments and working with the Communications team and our agency to drive PR coverage and value in these key moments.
3. Athlete engagement – This is a core element of the role and includes managing the marketing relationship with the BOA’s Athletes’ Commission, key liaison for GB Olympians’ Association and support for the athlete services function with ongoing athlete communications. Development of an athlete communications plan both athlete and fan facing.
4. Ambassador marketing – This role will play a key part in developing formal athlete ambassador relationships through a defined programme of activity and engagement. This will include management of athlete ambassadors programme, content generation and athlete amplification to support the campaign. Development of a formal athlete management programme.
5. Ocean Outdoor – working closely with our Out of Home (OOH) partner, Ocean Outdoor. Management of content strategy for OOH channels, including Team GB and partner opportunities.
6. Events – event marketing and PR support for events including, but not limited to, Team GB homecoming from the Olympic Winter Games and the Team GB Ball.
7. I am Team GB activation – delivering on a planned partnership activation. Work with key Government and Health bodies to support the strategy of improving health and wellbeing in the UK by inspiring the public to find ways to achieve their goals through the use of I am Team GB.
Key relationships
This role involves a high level of liaison with all BOA internal teams, external partners, agencies, stakeholders and suppliers. Close working relationships with the Commercial and Communications teams, and senior leadership to deliver on objectives. This role reports in to the Acting Head of Marketing.
Candidate specification
A senior marketing professional with a strong track record of –
• 5+ years experience working with well recognised brands at a national and international level.
• Content production and branding creation
• B2C marketing
• Campaign management
• Production and delivery.
• Olympic related experience with an NGB or partner is preferred.
The role requires the following skills:

Must be able to work flexible times during busy Games periods and events. Must have a hunger to learn and ability to flourish in a dynamic, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment. Must be able to work under continual deadline constraints.
