Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To assist the Lead Academy Physiotherapist in implementing and delivering the Medical Standards of Performance for the Wasps England Rugby Academy. Including medical standards, rehabilitation, injury prevention, education (player/coach/parent) and specialised duties as required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Liaise with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist regarding the progress of all injured players to ensure accurate and up to date injury information to available to all coaching staff.
To provide match day physiotherapy cover to all academy fixtures including pitch side emergency care.
To support & deliver the physiotherapy provision on the Junior Academy and Henley College Rugby programme in line with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance.
To monitor and record any injuries from training and playing in accordance with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance. This includes the type, frequency, mechanism and severity of injury and time lost form playing and training.
Keep documentation on all aspects of injury management in line with the Wasps Academy Medical Standards of Performance and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) guidelines.
Perform musculoskeletal screenings, treatment, pre-habilitation and rehabilitation programming as required by the Lead Academy Physiotherapist.
To liaise and report on a daily basis to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist
in line with Medical Standards of Performance any assessment findings and treatment progressions.
Assist the Academy Management to maintain player and staff discipline on and off the field to the highest standards.
Take an active role in the in-service professional development courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry/profession.
To provide pitch-side first aid cover to RFU standards at both Academy matches and training sessions.
Take an active role in the in-service professional development courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry/profession.
Undertake an appropriate programme of out-service courses to enhance skills and knowledge to keep abreast of new trends and developments within the industry.
Complete expenses and other relevant documentation in line with company policies.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
In order to perform the role to the required standards, the job holder should have the following skills, attitude and experience:
• BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent, a postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential.
• CSP registration.
• HCPC registration
• Proven experience of delivering to adolescent athletes, in managing and assisting their return and prevention of injury.
• A minimum of 2 years post graduate experience with at least 1 year working within a high performance environment.
• A full driving licence is essential in order to perform this role.
• Fantastic builder of relationships across a wide spectrum of people
• Be a positive and effective communicator, both written and verbal to inspire confidence in those you engage with.
• Engaging presentation skills as will need to regularly present to the Academy players, their parents, Wasps staff and other key stakeholders involved with the Academy (eg RFU, County staff etc)
• Relentlessly positive, enthusiastic and dynamic in all their actions, willing to go the extra mile
• High levels of resilience as the role will involve unsociable hours and lots of face to face contact with Academy members, potential members etc.
• Be a champion for the Academy at all times and regularly promote the Academy to a variety of stakeholders
• Is prepared, ready and open to challenging the status quo to consistently improve the Academy and question the why and the how.
Full ICIS accreditation is a requirement for this role, this will be provided for the successful applicant.
