Academy Data Scientist – Fulham Football Club

Job Description
The Club are seeking a Data Scientist to support the delivery of the Academy Mission and Objectives by leading the strategic and operational implementation of data collection, storage processes and analytics across the Academy departments. We are looking for an individual who has experience of applying data science to elite sport, ideally with young athletes in a fast paced and often pressurised environment.

The role will include but not be limited to:
• Leading on data analysis in talent identification and player development in the academy, working within a multidisciplinary team to create unique and actionable insights for staff, coaches, and players;
• Collaborate in creating a data-driven approach to the key pillars of Academy strategy, specifically in player development, programme development, and player transitions;
• Work with a range of different data sources, including technical and physical data, implementing a strategic and operational plan for the collection, storage, and analysis of Academy data;
• Implement visualisation tools that allow for insights to be shared with staff and players in an appropriate way based on their needs; and
• Implement best practice approaches in data science that can be scaled over time;
The successful candidate will have an eye for detail, be diligent and creative working with limited resources, a flexible attitude to working tasks is required. Emotional intelligence, exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people are all essential qualities. You will represent the Club to the highest standards and ensure that you are working in compliance with Safeguarding young people, Club policies including GDPR and protocols specific to the Academy.
As a minimum you will have experience in a programming language, ideally Python or R with some experience of writing SQL queries. You will have the skills and know how to manipulate, interpret, and visualise data in a meaningful way and present your findings.
You will be required to hold the FA Safeguarding Children certification as well as play an active role in attending CPD events at the Club and externally.
Exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, you must be able to confidently converse with a wide audience of people from varying backgrounds assertively and compassionately.
