Academy Physiotherapist (part time) – Castleford Tigers

Job Description
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated chartered physiotherapist to join the Castleford Tigers medical team.
The successful candidate, with the support of the club’s graduate sports rehabilitator, will lead the medical provision for both U19 Academy and U16 Scholarship squads. The job role will involve predominantly working with our youth players but there may be some opportunity to work with other squads if the current COVID restrictions on the crossover of medical staff are lifted in the future.
The academy physiotherapist will work closely with the academy and scholarship coaching staff and will also be asked to liaise with the first team medical and coaching staff as required.
This is a part time role which will involve mainly evening and weekend work (approx. 2-3 sessions per week). The role will be based at the club’s stadium in Castleford. However, is it essential that the candidate can travel to associated training and match venues.

Key role responsibilities
– Provide physiotherapy services to a caseload of academy and scholarship players.
– Carry out pitch-side assessment and treatment of players during training and matches.
– Deliver high-level injury rehabilitation and work with strength and conditioning colleagues, to ensure a safe return to play.
– Monitor and assess players to establish their injury status and fitness to train or play.
– Supervise and train students and more inexperienced members of the medical team.
– Keep adequate electronic records in line with CSP standards.
– Ensure academy players’ emergency medical files are up to date and complete the relevant administration requirements for any new players and trialists.
– Attend departmental CPD sessions in addition to maintaining your own CPD portfolio.
– Keep up to date with the latest RFL medical and COVID-19 guidelines and take a lead in ensuring that they are adhered to by all staff and players.
– Communicate with coaching staff to give updates on rehabilitation, training status and return to play projections.
– Liaise, were required, with external parties such as schools, GPs, international coaches, international medical staff, parents and community coaches.
– Undertake injury surveillance and injury audits for youth squads.
– Create professional relationships with players, their parents and colleagues to support health and wellbeing, injury prevention and rehabilitation needs. Ensuring they adopt a professional manner appropriate to represent the club at all times.
– Assist with sport science provision to implement injury prevention strategies. This may include working in the gym, on pitch side and providing zoom education sessions.
– Prepare and organise mandatory and essential medical equipment for academy games and training.
– The above is not an exhaustive list and the candidate would be required to carry out other tasks within their scope of practice to meet the demands of the performance environment.

Person specification
– Degree in Physiotherapy (E)
– HCPC and CSP Registered (E)
– IMMOFP qualified (D) or able to undertake this advanced trauma course at the next available opportunity (E)
– Possess excellent communication skills and be highly organised (E)
– Work unsociable hours, including weekends and bank holidays to meet the demands of a professional sports team. (E)
– Experience of working in sport (E), preferably rugby league (D)
– Experience of working in the NHS and associated knowledge of referral to specialist services within the NHS and private hospitals (D)
– DBS Clearance and evidence of eligibility to work in the UK (E)
– Knowledge of safeguarding and experience of working with children/young adults (E)
– High level of musculoskeletal assessment skills, rehabilitation of elite level athletes and associated understanding on safe return to play strategies. (E)
– Knowledge of wider medical issues associated with working in professional sport, examples include management of concussion, athlete screening, injury and illness prevention strategies (E)
– Excellent IT skills (E)
– Ability to work calmly under pressure and possess very good time management skills (E)
– Able to work autonomously and manage a caseload of players but have the understanding on when to seek advice from senior members of the medical team and onward referral for specialist opinion where required. (E)
– Experience of managing students and junior colleagues (D)
– Car driver with appropriate insurance to drive to required venues (E)
