Following the retirement of one of our senior leaders, we are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Assistant Headteacher to join our dynamic senior leadership team. The successful applicant’s primary role will be as Director of Mathematics, taking on the strategic leadership of a dedicated, high-performing team with a keen focus on securing progress for every student. Further whole-school responsibilities will be negotiated following appointment, to take account of the successful candidate’s strengths and experience. Applications are welcome from enthusiastic professionals who have a track record of outstanding classroom practice and excellent student achievement, as well as experience of leadership in a mathematics department.
The Mathematics Curriculum Area is among the strongest in our school, as was acknowledged in our March 2015 Ofsted inspection, with the report noting that “Teaching in mathematics has improved and is consistently strong”. Results have risen dramatically from 46% A*-C in 2012 to 67% A*-C in 2015, with over 70% of students making expected progress. In addition to leading this highly motivated team, which has pioneered several initiatives in assessment and feedback, the successful candidate will join an innovative and supportive Senior Leadership Group. Inspectors and visitors to the school are regularly impressed by the collaborative ethos and evident passion for improving the school which this group shares.
Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. In addition, we are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. As a member of the Saffron Academy Trust and partner in two teaching school alliances, we are involved in an extensive school-to-school support network aimed at raising standards across our partnerships. Numerous opportunities for joint working and professional development exist through our links with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, and we would certainly be supportive of requests from applicants to gain NPQSL or SLE designation, or undertake courses at a similar level.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring service at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
