Are you a journalist looking for your next big challenge? Do you want to write about hot topics such as High Speed 2, rail fares and Tube strikes? Do you have what it takes to search out lead news stories and get to the bottom of controversial subjects?
RAIL is Britain’s market-leading rail industry and consumer magazine, providing news, comment, analysis and features from Britain’s leading industry experts every fortnight, and daily online. This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a talented and versatile journalist to join our busy team.
Key requirements of the role include:
Assist with the planning and implementation of news both in the magazine and online
Write accurate and well-researched news for both magazine and online
Self-generate off-diary news and build an industry contacts book
Proof-read news, features and columns
Write in-depth and compelling features on a broad range of subjects
Interview rail industry experts
Attend press briefings and industry events
Visit rail locations across the country
Life is always busy and varied on a fortnightly magazine. You will need to be able to work quickly and accurately on a wide range of both news and features across all aspects of the rail industry.
At one end of the spectrum, we’re looking for someone who can research and write impressive and powerful news stories, at the other someone who can write absorbing and compelling features. We’re looking for an inquisitive and determined self-starter with great attention-to-detail.
Ideally you will have experience of writing for publications, but it would be an advantage if you have knowledge of the modern railway industry too.
The role is based in the Bauer Media offices in Lynchwood, Peterborough, though some travel will be necessary as part of news and feature research.
