Purpose of Job
Independently analyse and appraise the risks of EBRD’s new and existing portfolio: equity, quasi-equity and mezzanine transactions. Identify required due diligence, validate structure and pricing, value creation plans, exit strategy and market risk mitigation. Ensure that banking projects comply with the Bank’s sound banking mandate and adequately protect the Bank’s interests. The Associate Risk Officer Special Projects is involved also in cross-team analyses and projects also with other teams and functions within the Bank, prepares presentations as instructed by the Director of the department and supports the Special Assets team on difficult transactions and their decision making process. The role is also Operational Risk champion and point of contact for ICF Controls and RDMR tests in coordination with the Director and interfacing with the respective counterparts in the broader Risk & Compliance organization.
The position can be based in one of the following locations: London, Cairo, Istanbul, Kyiv, Almaty/Tashkent, Belgrade, Tbilisi and Warsaw.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The Associate Risk Officer Special Projects will work with varying levels of supervision depending on his/her experience with the relevant task on the following, to:
Support the Special Assets team by:
Analysing the equity case and structure, entry valuations, value creation plan and realism of exit assumptions.
Review integrity and anti-money laundering issues to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and advise on referral to the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer as required.
Appraise the validity and reliability of key assumptions of each option and course of action, including via involvement in the commissioning and review of independent due diligence.
Make clear recommendations on each proposal.
Lead proactive and regularly monitoring of the assigned portfolio counterparties, product and market developments. Actively and constructively, engage with relevant Bank staff to ensure adequacy of front-line monitoring.
Internal Controls (ICF & RDMR tests) and Operational Equity Risk Management:
Support the Director and be on top of internal control and testing of department’s processes and procedures, recommending improvements whenever possible
Be the reference person (aka the Champion), of the whole Equity Risk department, for the Operational Risk Management
In liaison with other Risk teams lead equity portfolio reviews and provide input to equity portfolio stress-tests. Collaborate with other members of staff, especially in Banking and Equity front-end, Finance, Legal, Compliance, the Office of the Chief Economist to ensure effective cross-departmental and business functioning.
Participate in various executive Bank committees as instructed.
Participate and contribute positively to various initiatives within Risk Management or bank-wide.
Be an agent of commercial equity culture dissemination in the Bank.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Knowledge of equity and/or investment analysis.
Knowledge and interest for investment & development banking / financial institutions / funds sector.
Previous experience working in an organization related to one of the following: asset management, risk management, M&A, portfolio or investment management.
Ability to serve as equity risk interface and point of contact on special projects and initiatives.
Project management and coordination skills.
Analytical, organization, planning and time management skills.
Accuracy and precision, sharp with good problem-solving skills and “can do” attitude.
Flexible and communicative attitude to be able to interact with stakeholders at various levels within the organization and in a cross-functional environment.
Influencing skills in challenging equity investment and exit strategy, asset selection, structuring, portfolio management.
Preferred, but not necessary, previous knowledge of emerging markets, like CIS, CEE and SEMED.
Capability of delivering clear conclusions in the context of large volumes and tight timescales.
Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and good financial analysis skills.
Power user of Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Email and web-based applications.
Degree in finance, business, economics, engineering, marketing or equivalent on the job training.
