Job role
We Made That is looking for an associate/ senior associate to join our growing team in our London office. We are seeking a candidate capable of leading projects, teams and developing the practice’s approach and values. You will be interested in large masterplanning projects, influential spatial strategies and delivering built projects at a range of scales. You may have particular expertise in industrial intensification, adaptive high streets, cultural infrastructure or healthy neighbourhoods.
As a new team member, you should be ready and fluent at operating at a senior level and work collaboratively alongside the practice partners and as part of the senior management team. You will be driven by wanting to help create equitable places through impactful projects.
Responsibilities and tasks
The ideal candidate will be an experienced associate, familiar with working as part of a senior management team and comfortable in managing their time across projects, staff development, business development and wider practice initiatives. You will be flexible and adaptable, confidently balancing a varied workload and maintaining an appropriate level of involvement on projects. Reporting to the Partners and assisting in setting the strategic direction of the project work and practice, you will be an experienced designer with a wide knowledge of the work stages and processes involved in delivering projects.

provide feedback and help to nurture practice-wide knowledge sharing
be committed to improving technical knowledge and project management skills across the team
push forward value driven outputs and help to embed the practices ethos and values in everything we do
actively contribute to conversations around the strategic development of the team, the business and the long-term vision of the practice
enable optimism and positive performance development across all areas of project work and practice outputs
represent the practice externally at events, talks and networking opportunities
Competencies, skills and experience
You must be a talented architectural or urban designer, have a wide knowledge of design principles and spatial strategies and with a great eye for presentation. You will have an ability to drive project design development, oversee the project team and through mentorship enable others to understand the strategic direction of our project work.
You will be adaptable and be well versed in working directly with local authority clients and consultant teams. You must possess strong project management skills, be an experienced team leader and perform comfortably in client-facing roles.
Essential:
have a masters-level qualification in urban design, architecture or similar related subject
have a proven track record of experience with mixed-use delivery, strategic or master planning experience in the UK for public bodies
are highly experienced in leading teams, possess strong project management skills and can drive decisions in a confident and effective way
be familiar with city regeneration contexts and best practice
demonstrate an in depth working knowledge of environmental and social performance impacts and how we can deliver these within projects
excellent communication skills and a sincere desire to contribute to lively, creative and productive team working
experience with Adobe CS, Vectorworks and GIS software is essential
have a genuine desire to help foster and create and an inclusive team, studio culture and work environment
be commercially aware with an understanding of financial targets and business KPI’s
enjoy collaborating and making new contacts
have demonstrable experience of identifying growth prospects and targeting new work streams
Desired:
be a minimum of seven years’ post Part 3/final accreditation
have held an associate role in a similar sized practice
are an active contributor to the wider built environment profession and with a strong commitment to continuing professional development
be experienced in delivering high quality projects for public sector clients
experience using CMAP or similar project management software
