Job Description
Barts and the London Men’s Hockey Club have an exciting Head Coach vacancy for an experienced, ambitious, performance driven hockey coach. The head coach will oversee the club, focusing on the 1st team, with a target to get the team promoted into the South East BUCS 1B league.
The successful coach will be able to set clear, achievable and competitive targets for the team. He or she must be available to lead and execute well planned and adaptable training sessions that clearly reflect the performance and development needs of the squad and individuals with a focus on the technical and tactical aspects of the game.
The coach will be required to consistently delivery hockey sessions to a level 3 standard and must hold a minimum level 2 certificate on coaching hockey.
This role will oversee an Assistant Coach and aid/support the coach as and where appropriate. The Assistant Coach will be focused on developing skills and drills for players within the club that do not play within the 1st team.
Both coaches should work together to ensure that a club approach to training is maintained before focusing on team specific exercises for the main body of each session. A clear player pathway should be developed for promising players to progress through the club that is adhered to by both coaches.
The successful coach will deliver sessions on Monday evenings at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hockey Centre from 18:00 – 19:30 (this may be subject to a slight change). The role will start in September 2016 and will be ongoing for the academic year (22 weeks – September to April) with the hope that the role will be ongoing for multiple seasons.
It is desirable that the successful coach would be able to attend Wednesday afternoon BUCS matches or at least commit to some matches throughout the season, however this is negotiable.
All shortlisted coaches will be required to attend a practical interview. Details of the interview will be sent out to all applicants who have been selected for the interview after the closing date.
