Overview of the opportunities
We are looking to expand our Board by recruiting new members. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are inspired by our mission and want to play a leading role in the next phase of its development.
Dame Kelly Holmes Trust is committed to building a culturally diverse team and therefore strongly encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds.
In particular, we are seeking to recruit people with knowledge and experience of:
• Charity fundraising across a diverse range of income streams with a focus on Corporate Partnerships
• World-class sporting structures, systems, management and understanding the issues athletes face in the transition from competitive sport
• Leading and managing safeguarding risks in relation to children and vulnerable adults
• Experience in running/managing a charity
• experience of young people’s services and commissioning
• Financial skills

The Role of the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Trust, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the strategy, business plan, legal and regulatory guidelines. Their responsibilities include:
• To ensure that the Trust and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of the Charity Commission and in line with the organisation’s governing documents
• To establish and monitor standards and policies, and maintain the highest standards of Trustee conduct
• To uphold the fiduciary responsibilities of the Trust in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that are compliant with Charity Commission and Inland Revenue guidelines
• To help shape the strategic direction of the Trust so that we have the maximum impact for our beneficiaries
• To provide healthy challenge and support to the overall direction and development of the charity through developing a sound understanding of the business plan and strategy- act as a trusted advisor and critical friend
• To support the staff in developing and maximising their potential
• To maintain sound financial management of the charity’s resources
• To safeguard the name of Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and ensure its financial stability
• To act as an ambassador for the Trust

Person specification
Essential
• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• Good independent judgement, evaluation skills and an ability to think analytically
• Strong team player, able to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
• Willingness and ability to commit the time and energy necessary to support and develop the organisation
• A commitment to the vision and mission of Dame Kelly Holmes Trust
Desirable
• Experience of working with small organisations; managing organisational change; fundraising
• Understanding of charity finance practices including management of restricted and unrestricted funds
• Experience as a trustee or working with a charity board in an executive role
• Commitment and flexibility to engage and support the charity and its growth ambitions

Other information
In addition, the Board has a number of honorary roles appointed from the Board membership in order to ensure the effective running of the Board and that it is able to meet its obligations and responsibilities. The ‘honorary officers’ comprise of the Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer. The honorary officers are elected by the members of the board of trustees. Remuneration
This is a voluntary role, with reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in the duties of the role being reimbursed.
Location
Typically, the majority of meetings take place in London however virtual attendance is possible, and we welcome applications from across the UK. In addition, there will be times through the year when we look to have face-to-face meetings to drive strategy and team building, for example.

Time commitment
Four (4) Board meetings per year, digesting any pre-reading material prior to those meetings.
We would also like Board Members to be members of subcommittees, which meet frequently, typically four times a year. These Committees are Finance and Audit, Programmes, Income Generation and the Remunerations & Nominations Committee.
A small number of other events and functions as an ambassador of the Trust
It is also strongly encouraged that all Trustees visit a programme at least annually and experience first-hand the Trust’s impactful work with young people.
