Background
An exciting opportunity has come up within this young, ambitious charity to play a key role in helping Dallaglio RugbyWorks achieve its growth plans.
Founded in 2009 by England and Wasps rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio, Dallaglio RugbyWorks delivers an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.
The Role of the Coach
Working in Alternative Provision Schools (AP), sometimes referred to as Pupil Referral Units (PRU) within London, Newcastle, Bristol and South Wales, our national programme, RugbyWorks, gives disengaged young people who have been failed by the mainstream education system, the practical support, experience and ability that helps them believe and invest in the possibility of a future in sustained education, employment or training.
Using rugby as a tool we focus on: Engagement – minimising the impact of their past, Integration – making better decisions in the present and Achievement – planning for a more successful future. To achieve this the candidate will deliver a low-numbers, high-impact programme, built on the foundation of long-term engagement and genuine rapport with the young people.
The programme consists of rugby coaching, youth work and mentoring in equal measure in addition to the efficient collection of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) data.
Main responsibilities
• Designing and delivering sessions to meet the needs of young people.
• Accurately and efficiently collect Monitoring and Evaluation data to relay impact of the programme.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with Young People and staff within Alternative Provisions.
• To follow Dallaglio RugbyWorks risk assessment process, Health and Safety and Safeguarding Procedures.
• Working closely with the fundraising and partnerships team to communicate successes of the programme.
• Report against programme objectives to demonstrate relevant outcomes.
• To support and develop the Assistant Coaches.
• Participate in Dallaglio RugbyWorks team meetings and training sessions.
• Work occasional unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
• Any other duties deemed necessary by your manager or CEO.
Personal Specification
Qualifications
• Educated to a minimum GCSE standard. Ideally with a minimum of five GCSE’s at Grade C or above.
• Level 2 Sports or Youth Work qualification.
• Tertiary education is an advantage.
Required Experience
• Delivered youth work, mentoring or sports based sessions to disengaged and at risk young people.
• Managing collection of Monitoring and Evaluation data.
• Knowledge of factors leading to exclusion from mainstream education.
Skills and Personal Attributes
• Good communication skills; patience and empathy when dealing with people.
• Ability to resolve conflict peacefully.
• Highly self-motivated to be able to work autonomously to achieve objectives.
• Must be an effective team member with sufficient flexibility and willingness to take on roles outside of job description.
• Ability to multitask.
• Be able to present themselves professionally to staff, volunteers and partners.
• I.T literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office Applications.
