British Gymnastics is the National Governing Body for gymnastics in the UK. As part of British Gymnastics’ commitment to implement the highest standards in safeguarding and welfare, we seek to appoint an expert leader as our Director of Welfare and Safe Sport. Reporting into the Chief Executive Officer, the role holder will play a pivotal role leading, shaping, and delivering our strategic approach to welfare and safe sport that is both positive and person-centred, ensuring the welfare of all involved in our sport is paramount in our approach and thinking.
This vacancy arises at a critical juncture for our sport, as we work to deliver Reform ’25 – our action plan to the Anne Whyte recommendations. We are committed to changing the sport for the better by working together with our community to create safe, positive, and fair experiences for all in gymnastics. The Director of Welfare and Safe Sport will play a key role in its delivery. With a proactive and collaborative approach, they will work closely with and through all voices across the breadth of the gymnastics landscape, including gymnasts, coaches, clubs, parents, volunteers and staff, to support environments where everyone understands what is needed and people feel safe and empowered to speak up if there are areas of concern, knowing they will be listened to and action will be taken. Leading a team of experts with responsibility for welfare and safe sport, they will help us to further develop our capacity and expertise, oversee an integrated approach to delivery and most importantly our strategy in these crucial areas.
Possessing in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, procedures, and best practice with respect to safeguarding, they will demonstrate experience developing robust welfare and safe sport strategies, delivering them across a diverse stakeholder and membership base. An inclusive, empathetic, and collaborative leader, they will help us to best serve our community ensuring a holistic approach to welfare and safe sport and, as part of the senior management team, they will work closely with our key stakeholders in implementing transformational culture change.
