Job Description
The Rugby Football Union is looking to appoint a new full-time team doctor to lead the Sports Medicine service for the Women’s 15’s and 7’s programme, oversee the medical support for the U20 programme and act as a medical advisor to a new Women’s competition and academy programme.
The role holder will personally provide Sports Medicine services to the England Women’s XVs and 7’s programmes through the delivery of @ 3 clinics/per week at Bisham Abbey, Marlow Rd, Marlow, SL7 1RR outside of 15’s competition phases when it is expected that the doctor will be with the 15’s squad.
The post holder is not normally expected to travel with the 7’s team during competitions but will be available for telephone support.
The Women’s 15’s competition programme in 2016-17 comprises the Old Mutual Wealth Autumn Internationals (November), the Six Nations (February and March) and a summer tour (June 2017) in addition to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Dublin/Belfast (August 2017). The 7’s programme includes the World Rugby Sevens Series (December to June), the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series (June and July) and other invitational and domestic tournaments.
The successful candidate will pride themselves on a reputation for clinical excellence in the field of sports medicine. Excellent communication and relationship building skills as a team leader and in relationships with club and academy medical teams is essential. The role holder must have confidence in their own professional ability with the ability to demonstrate this in an assertive but non-threatening manner. The candidate must have a strong commitment to continuing professional development.
The role holder will have experience of self-directed work and working as part of a multidisciplinary team in high performance sport. They will have substantial part-time or full time experience within elite level sport, preferably rugby, as a team doctor.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Diploma or MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Entry to the GMC Specialist Register for Sport and Exercise Medicine, Fellowship of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and training and competency in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound are preferred.
