Graduate Sports Assistant – Emanuel School

Job Description
Emanuel are seeking to appoint a Graduate Sports Assistant who has enthusiasm, vision, and good inter-personal skills. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to enthuse pupils aged 10 – 18 and have some experience of coaching netball and hockey. This position will comprise 27 hours per week, operating on a flexi-time basis (i.e. with time off in lieu of over-time during busy periods such as production weeks – but normally aiming to spend 5 or 6 days in school each week)

The successful candidate will be qualified with the knowledge and maturity to allow him/her to support a high level netball or hockey programme. The candidate is likely to have a 2.1 or better as a first degree in a sport based subject and/or UKCC professionally accredited coaching qualifications.

We are looking for someone who:

• holds a detailed and knowledgeable understanding in netball and hockey.

• is prepared to commit to the extra-curricular demands of a busy department,

• To help supervise the day to day running of the PE and games curriculum.
• Help with the organisation of both PE and Games programmes for all Boys.
• To help with the organisation of fixtures, transport and catering for Rugby and
Cricket.
• To take responsibility for the coaching of a squad in each term.
• To assist, where required, with other school squads, including the 1st team in their major sport.
• To assist with the delivery of an enhanced sports science framework, to include video analysis, strength and conditioning and physiological monitoring and
assessment.
• To become a mentor to a small group of gifted and talented pupils who may or may not be Sports Scholars, involving regular tutorials.
• To assist with the organisation and implementation of the annual Sports
Scholarship assessments.
• To assist with Open and Activity Days and our Annual Tournaments.
• To attend the weekly PE department meetings.
• To assist in developing and clearly laying down the department’s policy and procedures consistent with the Aims and Methodology of the school.
• Participating in the School’s appraisal programme, assist the Director of Sport by drawing comments about staff that support the games programme.
• Supporting members of the academic staff assisting games who may be having problems with individual pupils or classes, ensuring that pupil discipline is
maintained.
• Ensuring proper record keeping within the department and ensuring that reporting, both internally and to parents, is consistent with the policy of the school. Registration of both Games and PE lessons to include both effort and attainment grades.

Pay and Conditions
The role is for 27 hours per week, term time only. The salary is likely to be between
£19,000 and £20,000 per annum, inclusive of holiday pay, depending on experience (but is negotiable for the right candidate).

This role will demand a commitment normally for 5 or 6 days a week during term time, but will also require flexible hours. This role will involve work at weekends, mainly Saturdays. The post will also offers generous holidays, in that there are 17 weeks a year when the school is not in session.

Lunches are provided for staff during term time free of charge.

The school is conveniently located near Clapham Junction in SW11 with access to the whole of London and its depth and breadth of cultural activities.

The appointment would be initially for one school year with a possible option to extend this contract for up to one further year, if this suits both parties.
