Head of Academy – Hull City Football Club – England

Your key responsibilities
• Lead, manage & evolve the Academy Recruitment strategy to identify players in the U7-U16’s age groups with the potential to represent Hull City’s First Team, with specific scouting focus on U13-U16 age groups
• Each season ensure the talent depth within each age group is as strong as possible, with a specific focus on the U9’s and U16’s age groups (key age groups)
• Line Manage the U7-U12’s Local Recruitment Manager & Academy Scouts
• Attend fixtures to identify players aged U7-U16 suitable for trial with Hull City Academy
• Lead the local and national trial process for U7-U16’s
• Develop a network of contacts to aid the recruitment of players released from other professional clubs at U16’s
• Lead multi-disciplinary decision-making meetings to discuss local and national trialist performance & potential, resulting in retain or release decisions
• Support the Academy Manager, Head of Coaching & Head of Emerging Talent as a member of the Academy Technical Board (ATB), attending meetings when required
• Contribute as a member of the Academy Management Team (AMT) to the continued progression of the Academy’s daily operations, attending meetings when required
• Be responsible for the ongoing EPPP Audit each season, through the maintenance of accurate recordings & any other evidence required
• Review & update the recruitment philosophy, policies, protocols, & procedures in line with the EPPP & Academy’s required standards
• Have ultimate responsibility for recruiting & leading a team of Academy Scouts, as well as their training & development through internal & external CPD alongside the U7-U12’s Local Recruitment Manager
• Regularly review Academy Scouts performance, ensuring that the best available local players are identified & recruited
• Manage the trialist budget for U16’s National Recruitment
• Oversee the scouting schedule, ensuring fixtures across the catchment area are covered in an economically viable manner and ensure all players of interest are logged & tracked by the Academy Scouts on the electronic database
• Continually monitor Scouts’ player recommendations & follow up on all players identified
• Continually develop the trial procedure throughout Hull City Academy’s Elite Player Pathway, liaising with the AMT to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to trials
• Collaborate with the AMT and administrative staff to lead the trial/signing registration process
• Develop, maintain & enhance relationships with key internal stakeholders to provide the best possible environment for player recruitment & retention
• Develop, maintain & enhance relationships with key external stakeholders such as Tigers Trust, Leagues, Clubs, County FA’s, Schools Associations & other organisations
• Develop, maintain & enhance relationships with Head of Emerging Talent and First Team recruitment staff to provide alignment of recruitment practices & player identification
• Undertake any CPD in line with role and academy requirements
• Ensure that any Child Welfare or Safeguarding issues are reported immediately to the relevant personnel
• Undertake any other ad-hoc tasks at the direction of the Academy Manager, Head of Coaching & Head of Emerging Talent

What are we looking for?
• A proven track record of success in the identification and recruitment of players across all age groups within an academy system (Essential)
• Excellent knowledge and experience of the football environment relating to the recruitment of players and the regulations that govern player recruitment
• Previous experience of managing a department within an academy environment (Desirable)
• Experience of EPPP (advantageous)
• Knowledge and understanding of the geographical catchment area for potential players at Hull City, and a clear understanding of the local clubs/leagues in the area (Desirable)
• Excellent communication skills and adherence to high levels of confidentiality
• Hold a full valid UK driving licence
• Willingness to work unsociable hours and weekends
• The safeguarding and welfare of our players is paramount and as such this position is subject to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
Qualifications & Training:
• The FA Talent ID Level Three (Essential)
• FA Safeguarding Certificate (Essential)
