Job Description
A fantastic new opportunity to lead the evolution of the Modern Pentathlon athlete pathway!
Our sport is welcoming and transitioning to a new 5th discipline, integrating Obstacle Course Racing into an existing programme of Swimming, Fencing and Laser-Run (run/shoot).
This is an opportunity to develop world leading talent identification and development systems, build strong stakeholder relationships and create a strong environment for athletes to reach their potential. The strategic lead for our future pathway, driving the foundation of our sport to support the achievement of Pentathlon GB’s performance targets in future Olympic cycles.
We are looking for a strong leader to add to our existing Performance & Talent Senior Leadership Team who is looking for a new challenge and opportunity to work in Britain’s largest multi-sport environment. With a rich history of Olympic success can you help us to continue this?
Our preference is for the successful candidate to be based in Bath with our team but we would welcome candidates applying on a Hybrid working basis with a minimum of 2 days per week in Bath.
The role reports to the Performance Director, with one direct report (Pathway Manager). Due to maternity leave this role will also line manage x5 Talent Coach & Technical Lead roles in the interim.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, review and evolve the PGB Pathway Strategy to develop a world leading athlete development framework, building appropriate relationships and partnerships to deliver success.
• Manage and evolve the framework that defines the competencies, benchmarks and experiences that are needed to develop into a world class athlete.
• Lead the delivery of a world class induction, education and transition programme for all athletes into the National Training Centre in Bath.
• Lead and manage the recruitment, confirmation, assessment, membership and review processes for athletes into the TASS and Pathway programmes.
• Lead the TASS and BUCS programmes for Pentathlon.
• In partnership with wider Pentathlon GB staff ensure that there are effective national level competition and coaching opportunities for pathway athletes.
• Ensure, in partnership with all pathway and coaching staff that the right quality and quantity of athletes are entering the pathway and being nominated for inclusion to the World Class Programme.
• Work with the UK Sport and Sport England performance pathway teams to investigate pathway development and efficiency.
• Continually seek to enhance our research into, understanding of, and implementation of cutting edge initiatives in athlete development and progression.
• Identify opportunities to diversify our pathway, ensuring the best talent has access to the sport and can thrive in our environment, working with internal and external partners (e.g. UK Sport, Home Nations etc) to attract more athletic talent into identified ‘talent gaps’ within the pathway.
• Work with the communications team to ensure pathway-related literature remains up-to-date and athlete experiences are regularly captured and published.
• Where appropriate, attend camps, competitions and athlete visits to maintain positive relationships with coaches, athletes and parents and maximise athlete recruitment.
• Support the PGB selection processes for appropriate international competitions, ensuring information is provided ahead of meetings and acting as a selector where appropriate.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with a range of key stakeholders and external partners, ensuring services are delivered on time, to the standards required, and within budget.
• Be an active and positive member of the Pentathlon GB Performance Senior Leadership Team.
• Ensure the organisation’s equality policy and commitment to inclusivity is embedded into all work streams and projects and its values are embedded into the actions and behaviours of the team.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL
• A background and recent experience of operating in performance sport and a thorough working knowledge of the current UK high performance sporting landscape.
• Experience of planning and implementing successful talent identification and development programmes
• Experience in challenging existing assumptions in a constructive and meaningful way, entertaining new ideas and seizing challenges.
• Knowledge of national and local structures and policy frameworks for sport in Great Britain
• Strong organisational planning with experience of translating organisational strategies into clear and actionable operational plans.
• Proven record in delivering in a high-performance environment.
• Experience of managing demands, pressure and the needs of a diverse team working in a fast-paced environment with a high expectation of achievement.
• Knowledge to develop strategic and collaborative style to work positively in partnership with differing key stakeholders.
• Proven experience of managing budgets and administering organisation policy.
• Strong team player, flexibility to support other staff members within the organisation
• Excellent presentation, communication and influencing skills.
• Experiencing of delivering processes and projects, which includes multiple activities with different deadlines, work to set priorities and achieve against targets with finite resources
• High levels of IT literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office 365 products
• Positive and flexible work attitude with ability to meet the needs of the business as and when required calmly anticipating and proactively solving issues.
• Must hold a current, full driving licence (which permits the holder to drive in the UK).

DESIRABLE
• Experience leading a performance pathway team
• Experience and understanding of UK sport system agencies (e.g. UK Sport, Sport England) and funding submission processes
• Experience of identifying and generating novel funding streams for pathway activity
• Evidence of staying at the “cutting edge” of athlete development with knowledge and understanding of key development principles and performance pathways.
