We are currently recruiting for a head coach for the University of Manchester Netball Club. The role will coach our university first team and lead on all performance and coaching aspects of the UoM Netball Programme.
Job Details
The post holder will lead the Performance Netball programme at the University of Manchester Netball Club. This role will primarily be responsible for the coaching and leadership of the club’s 1st team but will also support the holistic development of the club as a performance sport at the university. The club currently train twice a week at the Armitage Sports Centre, Mon 9-10:30pm and Thu 6-7:30pm (training times are subject to change based on facility availability and identified need from successful candidate). The 1st team compete in BUCS Premier North and play 10 league games and Cup fixtures between October and March on Wednesdays. Additionally, the club are exploring entering into North West Regional League. Attending these fixtures would be an essential part of the role.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The UoM Netball Head Coach will work as part of the Performance Sport Programme, preparing players to compete for UoM Netball and developing their potential to play at a high level after graduation.
Coaching and Performance
• Leadership and figurehead of the Performance Netball programme developing both short term and long-term strategies to achieve agreed targets with UoM Sport.
• Lead on all performance and coaching aspects of UoM Netball Programme including training programme and match days.
• Set the direction of the netball programme covering technical, tactical, physical and mental development.
• Develop, monitor and manage the training schedule and load of players within the programme. Engage with key stakeholders in player networks to ensure that training programmes, competition schedules and academic schedules can excel in a mutually beneficial environment.
• Work closely with the Performance Sport Officer and Sport Coordinator (Performance Development) to support direction of objectives.
• Collaborate with Performance team support services (S&C coaches, physio and other Multi-disciplinary team members).
• Provide regular information and status reports, as agreed with the Performance Sport Officer.
• Work closely with the committee members to assist with the development of Netball at The University of Manchester.
• To ensure all sessions comply with Health and Safety.
• To work within an equal opportunities framework.
Player Recruitment and Retention
• Lead the recruitment process for both short term and long-term netball programme success
• Collaborate with Performance Sport Officer and Manchester Thunder partners to identify and track talented netballers with scholarship potential
• Attend recruitment opportunities and events
Indicative contact time requirement and hours:
Term time:
• 4 hrs training/wk (historically Monday evening and Thursday evening but can be adjusted to fit the coach’s vision and philosophy for the programme)
• 2-3 hrs BUCS match day, plus away game travel (10 league games and up to 5 playoff games)
Additional requirements:
• Approx. 3.5 hrs a week for 1-1/small group ad-hoc sessions, meetings, recruitment events, trials, out of term player management and communications. *
• Possible entry into North West regional league, including match day coaching and local travel for away games
* The need for contracted services in these areas would vary at different points in the year but a full year plan would be agreed with the appointed person at the outset
