Job Description
Sheffield United Football Club have a great opportunity for a part time Physiotherapist to join our Academy Elite Performance team. The primary function of the role is to provide physiotherapy support to the youth and foundation phase academy squads. This will involve the provision of rehabilitation clinics plus pitch side cover for training and games, primarily during evenings and weekends. Specifically, the role will involve the management of injury, delivery of rehabilitation programmes, MSK and medical screening, pitch-side first aid, medical note keeping and upload to PMA. Opportunity for the fixed-term contract to be renewed for future seasons.
Role Responsibilities:
• To work as part of an integrated and progressive elite performance team including physiotherapists, sport scientists and conditioning coaches to optimise player physical development, performance and agility.
• To assist the youth and foundation phase Physiotherapist in all medical/health related matters appertaining to all youth and foundation phase players.
• To assist the Lead Academy Physiotherapist in the development, organisation and implementation of treatment and rehabilitation programmes and protocols for all academy players.
• To take responsibility for the upkeep, maintenance and security of medical records (both written and electronic) for all academy players.
• Providing pitch-side medical cover for Saturday and Sunday fixtures across pre-Academy, Foundation and Youth phase age groups (U8s through to U16s).
• To assist the youth and foundation phase Physiotherapist in the development, organisation, coordination and provision of medical, cardiology, orthopaedic, psychological, ophthalmic, movement and postural screening programmes for all relevant players.
• To assist the Academy Doctor in medical and cardiology testing as required.
• To assist the Lead Academy Physiotherapist in the development, organisation and delivery of ‘in-service’ training for academy staff.
• To take responsibility for the implementation of any health/medical and education related briefings to staff, players and parents.
• To attend any briefings, seminars, workshops or courses as required by the Club, Academy Manager (AM) or Lead Academy Physiotherapist and to feedback on information and/or skills from these to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist, staff and other physiotherapists.
• To ensure that all medical, health and educational requirements are adhered to and to report to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist on all these matters.
• Employ evidence-based practise during treatment aligned with objective return to play markers following standardised RTP pathways for key injuries.
• Recording and maintaining accurate e-assessment notes, general medical notes and formulation of a Weekly Rehabilitation Plan (WRP) for injured players on PMA.
• To Partake in weekly Continued Professional Development (CPD) of Sports Physiotherapy Programme, including compulsory sports trauma teaching sessions.
• To work within the Standards and Competencies of a ‘Sports Physiotherapist’ as laid out in the departmental documentation ‘International Federation of Sports Physiotherapy’ (IFSP).
• To undertake any and all additional work or duties as required and directed by the Lead Academy Physiotherapist, Academy Manager or Club.
• To adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.

Essential Criteria for the role:
• BSc Sport Therapist degree.
• BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent degree.
• Current registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) or Society of Sports Therapists (SST) (if undergoing on the Pre-registration Physiotherapy course).
• Current registration with the HCPC (Physiotherapy) or SST (Society of Sports Therapists, if undergoing on the Physiotherapy course).
• Prior experience of pitch-side duties.
• Prior clinical experience in the musculoskeletal setting including the use of contemporary methods of injury management and functional rehabilitation as part of a return to play pathway.
• Valid first aid/basic life support certificate or pitch-side qualification (ITMMiF or equivalent).
Desirable Criteria for the role:
• Previous experience in working in Football.
• Certificate of strapping/taping.
• Previous experience of using PMA.
• Strength and Conditioning Accreditation.
