Professor in Computer Science – Southampton

Collaborating
with the multidisciplinary Web Science Institute (WSI) you will develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, methodologies and policies. The areas of research include fairness; inclusion; representation and diversity of AI and data; trust and security; safeguarding and governance of AI; techno-social AI, including social platforms, social machines, crowd computing, collective intelligence and collaborative production; the transformational impact of AI on work, health and politics.
You will draw on expertise across the research areas to bring together teams building on established networks of interdisciplinary relationships provided by WSI and its participation in the Alan Turing Institute.

To apply,
you’ll need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience, with extensive research experience and a collaborative approach to working across research areas and disciplines. You must have the confidence and presence to inspire students – through both group lecturing and one-to-one mentoring. Whatever you bring to the team, we’ll support you to develop and keep making progress in our forward-thinking department.
ECS is the home of the UKRI’s flagship national AI programme, the Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (TAS) Hub (www.tas.ac.uk) which undertakes and coordinates research across the UK and internationally. The TAS Hub brings together multiple disciplinary perspectives to address the technological, societal, and regulatory challenges involved in building autonomous systems that are trusted and trustworthy by design.
