Research Fellow in Health Technology Assessment & Modelling – Southampton

The Southampton
Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) is a centre of excellence for HTA. We find, review and pool clinical evidence and use methods of decision analysis and health economic evaluation to assess benefits for patients and value for health service funders. We are one of nine Technology Assessment Review (TAR) teams funded through the National Institute for Health Research Evidence Synthesis Programme (NIHR ESP) to provide independent and objective reports for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). We have an active programme of other funded research, including cost-effectiveness analyses in the context of clinical trials, secondary data analysis and modelling studies.

SHTAC
is part of the Wessex Institute, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. Working as part of the SHTAC health economic team, you will: critique submitted evidence and models for NICE technology appraisals; review health economic literature; analyse cost and outcome data from clinical trials; develop models to estimate long-term costs and effects; write reports and academic research papers; interact with NICE staff, committees, research collaborators and other stakeholders. You will be encouraged and supported to extend your knowledge of relevant methods, to develop your own research interests, to publish high quality reports and papers and to present at local, national and international conferences and meetings. Funding for relevant training is available, and if needed we will support you in completing a part-time post-graduate course.
You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in economics, statistics, operational research or another numerate and analytical discipline. In addition to technical knowledge and skills, you must be a good writer, work effectively in a team and communicate well.

Appointment will be made on the level 4 research pathway scale: £30,942 – £38,017 according to experience.

SHTAC is based in offices at the University of Southampton Science Park at Chilworth, Southampton. However, following the COVID-19 lockdown, SHTAC staff are working successfully from home, using videoconferencing and remote working technology. This is likely to continue to the end of 2020 and potentially for some time after then.
