JOB TITLE: Temporary Part-time (0.5) College Sports Maker
DEPARTMENT: Sport and Physical Education
RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Sport and Physical Education
Temporary from 15 August 2016 until 21 February 2018
The Purpose of the Position
To develop a broad programme of activities for non-participating students intended to promote health, leisure and sport within Winstanley College.
Context
Winstanley College employs approximately 200 staff and around 2000+ 16-19 year olds are enrolled on full time AS/A level courses. We offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses at all levels in a highly supportive and caring environment.
Key Responsibilities/Main Duties
1. Identify non-participants and as an ongoing process, assess their needs, desires and barriers to participation.
2. Raise participation levels among non-participating students in organised, self organised and student organised activities.
3. Co-ordinate suitable activities and opportunities to help raise participation.
4. Consider local recreational competitions and leagues that might become suitable upon gaining sufficient new participants.
5. Liase with Greater Sport, Wigan Sports Development, National Governing bodies, Sport England, Local sports clubs and other local bodies to identify opportunities for students to access resources with the aim of raising participation, eg equipment, coaches, organised activities.
6. Plan and deliver appropriate physical activities in the aim of raising participation where the activity suits the skills of the sport maker.
7. Focus on specific target groups initially this being women as part of the ‘Active Women’ project.
8. Using evidence gathered from consulting students and experiences, contribute to college Sports Strategy.
9. Co-ordinate whole college events geared towards raising participation, e.g. Healthy College Week, Sports Relief, Going for Gold, World Sports Day.
10. Become a member of the college Healthy College Group.
11. Create College-Club links and promote opportunities out of college for students to become involved in new activities as part of the ‘Back to Sport’ programme.
12. To be responsible for producing publicity material relating to the physical activity programme in order to inform students of opportunities available and results of events.
13. Be aware of local and national initiatives and opportunities to help raise participation, ‘Growing Sport, Growing Colleges’ strategy.
14. To be responsible for producing publicity material relating to the physical activity programme to inform students and staff of opportunities available and results of events.
15. To be responsible, while at work, for ensuring that reasonable care is taken for your health and safety and also for the health and safety of others.
16. To be responsible and take ownership for your continuous personal development, undertaking relevant training as and when appropriate.
17. To undertake such other duties as may be required.
Terms and Conditions
Hours of work: 18 hours per week (tbc exactly what hours but within the envelope 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Friday), full year, although some flexibility required including evening and attendance at College events. Fixed term contract until February 2018.
There is a contributory Occupational Pension Scheme and other Sixth Form Colleges terms and conditions accompany this position.
Salary: Point 30 (FTE: £23,381, actual: £11,611 per annum).
During College closure periods
Duties, hours and location of work may be different during term holiday periods in accordance with college requirements. You may therefore be required to carry out additional/alternative tasks within the scope and range of the position.
