Job Description
The aim of the internship is to provide recent sports science/S&C graduates with the opportunity to develop their applied and professional skills, increasing their level of employability in a highly competitive industry. The internship will involve observing full time sports scientist, S&C coaches and medics as well as working hands on with players aged 9-18 years.
You will receive mentoring both through formal in-house workshops as well as other informal means. You will have 2 x season reviews which is an opportunity for you to receive feedback on your performance, highlighting areas that you have excelled in and areas that need improvement as well as attending 6 weekly in service events held at the academy.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Assisting full time coaches with the delivery of gym and pitch based sessions for all age groups, U9-U18. Interns that show the required level of competency will be given the opportunity to lead sessions where appropriate.
– U9-U10: Pitch based physical literacy sessions.
– U12-U14: Gym/pitch based sessions focusing on physical literacy, mobility, strength, linear & COD speed.
– U15-U18: Gym based strength/power sessions, pitch based speed/COD & conditioning sessions.
– U18: Supervising injured players during gym based sessions. .
– Regular collecting, recording and presentation of GPS, HR, wellness and testing data.
– Assisting with testing of all age groups.
– Daily set-up/breakdown of GPS equipment.
– Hydration testing.
– Maintenance and up-keep of gym area and equipment.
– Filming of gym and pitch based S&C sessions.
– Assist in the general running of the department as required on a day to day basis.
** Roles and responsibilities are not limited to the above. Further responsibilities may be delegated as the internship progresses depending upon performance.
In support of your application the successful candidate will possess the following:
– BSc Sports Science or equivalent – Essential
– Excellent interpersonal skill, good communication and presentation skills
– Previous experience delivering sports science and or strength and conditioning with young athletes
– Competent with PC and Mac based operation system
– Ability to work evening and weekends
