Background:
Team GB is recruiting for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games (OWG).
We invite practitioners who meet the criteria set out in the job description to send in their CV with a covering letter as an expression of interest to fulfil the role of Headquarters Physiotherapist for Team GB at the Beijing Olympic Winter Games.
This expression of interest will be open from Monday 1st March 2021 – Sunday 4th April 2021 (Midnight)
The selection process will consist of:
• Short list selection via CV and cover letter
• 1st Round of interviews to be held on Tuesday 20th April 2021
• 2nd Round interview (if required) may be scheduled for early May 2021
• Interviews will take place remotely via Microsoft Teams or (if able) at the offices of The British Olympic Association in central London. Format to be advised.
• Appointments will be announced in May 2021.
Key Responsibilities:
• To provide the highest quality Physiotherapy support to all athletes during their preparation & competition phase and for the whole duration of the Olympic Winter Games.
• To provide a responsive, accessible Physiotherapy support service to all Team GB members, both in the Olympic Village, at competition and training venues, and any other location deemed appropriate to meet the requirements of the job role.
• To ensure a high standard of health promotion & preventative care in liaison with the athletes’ support staff (CMO, Physiotherapist, Team Leader and others), including advice on the prevention of injury and illness.
• To provide a massage service to athletes as part of the pre-event preparation and/or the post-event recovery if requested and appropriate.
• To liaise with other medical personnel, sports science staff and other support staff as required to ensure the highest standard of care of an athlete’s injury or illness and optimum rehabilitation and management, whilst always working within the CSP guidelines on patient confidentiality.
• To promote drug-free sport and have a working knowledge of The Code (WADA).
• To refer to appropriate specialists and other members of the medical support team as appropriate.
• To keep Physiotherapy records of all consultations and to keep these records confidential and secure using the PDMS athlete records system.
• To provide reports on Physiotherapy activity within the village or other locations as required.
Essential Qualifications:
1. BSc in Physiotherapy or the equivalent
2. MSc (or equivalent) in Sports and Exercise Medicine or Advanced MSK
3. Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
4. Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered
5. Current up-to-date Advanced Trauma care course (ICIS)
6. Current UKAD Accredited Advisor Certificate
Desired clinical experience:
1. At least 4 years clinical experience in elite sport
2. Currently working with elite winter sport athletes either through an HCSI appointment or directly with an NGB.
3. Previous major Games experience (WUG; CWG; EG; OWG; OG)
4. Previous work with BOA in multi-sport Games environment (YOG; EG; OWG)
5. An understanding of the BOA standard operating procedures during Games time

The Team GB HQ Physiotherapist reports directly to the Team GB Chief Physiotherapist during the Olympic Winter Games. The post holder will also work closely with Team GB clinical colleagues, Team GB Head of Performance Services, NGB clinical colleagues including all support staff & Team Leaders.
The operational dates for this Games Time role are c.22nd January to 22nd February 2022, final dates tbc. (Please note: OWG run 4th–20th Feb 2022). Additional dates/time may be required for essential preparation in the build up to deployment to the Olympic Winter Games
The Team GB HQ Physiotherapist will be located in the Olympic Winter Games environment in Beijing that may include: The Olympic Village and Clusters; The Performance Lodge; Base camp for deployment in the UK.
Working hours will be as required to fulfil the role and its significant fluctuating demands throughout the Olympic Winter Games.
The post-holder will be required to acknowledge this and work in a flexible manner to accommodate all requests where appropriate.
DBS check up to date, full driving license.
