Harlequins are the reigning Double English Champions across Men’s and Women’s rugby.
Founded in 1866, Harlequins is an iconic rugby club recognised around the world and is proud to be a founding member of the RFU, boasting more Presidents than any other club, as well as a healthy dose of Men’s and Women’s international players.
As reigning champions of the Allianz Premier 15’s and current world record holders for attendance at a women’s club rugby match (BG13), we are ambitious to build on the success of our Women’s Programme. To do this we move at tempo, we are unconventional in our thinking and approach and we recognise the value that each role in the team plays in delivering success. Our women’s programme is a key part of the Club’s future strategy.
We are now looking for an Athletic Performance Coach to join our Women’s Programme.
The role in brief:
In collaboration with the Rugby Coaching Team & Performance Team, the WAPC will be responsible for the planning, programming and delivery of an industry leading Strength and Conditioning programme for Harlequins FC Women’s squad, in line with the overall macrocycle of both club & international players. As well as this, the WAPC will be responsible for the re-integration of players to training and competition following completion of the injury rehabilitation process.
The Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning & delivery of all Athletic Performance Training Sessions i.e. speed, agility, strength and conditioning sessions.
• In collaboration with the Head Coach, the WAPC will be responsible for the planning, programming and delivery of all pitch and gym-based sessions in line with the yearly macrocycle & competition demands.
• Provide detailed progress reports for all senior squad players throughout the yearly macrocycle, with specific emphasis on the progress of injured players through their rehab process.
• Responsible for the appropriate coordination between relevant parties such as the Head Coach, Physiotherapist, Assistant APC and the coaching team as to the players.
The Skills, Experience and Qualifications needed:
• An undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in Strength & Conditioning or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Strength & Conditioning, with the most recent 3 being in a team sport setting, in a full or part time capacity.
• Knowledge across all areas of athletic development.
• Knowledge around the demands of rugby with a particular focus on the physical and technical aspects.
• Knowledge of, and experience in, testing, profiling and screening athletic performance qualities of athletes.
• Knowledge of, and experience in, working with athlete management systems and performance software (please state which software and system you have experience in).
• Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Well organised with excellent attention to detail.
• Forward thinking, with the ability to anticipate & plan for all eventualities.
• The ability to adapt and change training plans day to day.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Established coaching skills across all areas of athletic development.
• Valid UK driving license
