Business Manager – DI Design & Development Consultants (UK) – London, United Kingdom

The business manager reports to the chief operations officer and under his direction is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations management of the London office – including studio and staff management, resource planning, contract and quality control as well as project performance monitoring.

Key responsibilities:

Studio administration

responsible for the day-to-day office organisation
oversee the studio operations and provide support to the design studio directors
manage the implementation and enforcement of company policies, procedures and financial controls
responsible for performance management and the resolution of disciplinary issues in the studios
ensure the on-going training and personal development of the design staff
control the studio budgets and achievement of financial performance targets

Contract Implementation

act as point of reference for the contract management department
coordinate project resourcing to ensure that committed and speculative projects are delivered on time and on budget
regularly review performance of the studio teams against project budgets with the studio directors and take corrective action as necessary
oversee the studio project billing and receivables controls and escalate issues to the finance manager and the project principals
approve requests for revisions and chargeable change orders and ensure that work is only carried out when the additional budget has been approved

Desired skills and experience

fluent in written and spoken English, additional languages of advantage
RIBA Part-III qualified with at least 15 years post-qualification professional experience or equivalent qualifications and experience in a related industry for example in construction management, quantity surveying or similar
excellent interpersonal and team management skills in a culturally diverse environment, confident communicating at all levels of the organisation
ability to work well under pressure and effectively handle multiple, concurrent demands
strong problem solving skills using initiative and resourcefulness to prioritise workloads and resolve day-to-day operational issues
excellent organisation, project management and numerical skills to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget
proficient in the use of design applications (such as CAD) and Microsoft Office Suite
