Design Researcher – PowaBand – London, United Kingdom

PowaBand is looking for a design researcher to head up our ethnography and user research in our London studio.

PowaBand is a wearable gaming device that tracks a child’s activity and integrates it into any mobile or console game, giving them rewards, unlocks or boosts. It also has built in mobile and real world payment system, making payments monitorable and trackable by parents.

As our first research hire you will lead the design research of PowaBand, heading up the research process whilst having the opportunity to manage and grow our team as we hire interns over the summer. You will work collaboratively, creatively and passionately within our interdisciplinary team and will work primarily with our lead designer who has a background in industrial design.

We are currently in the process of a complete design overhaul of our product (see the current offering at www.powaband.com ) for launch in 2016 and we are moving towards a kickstarter campaign this summer. You will oversee the design research of this re-design, and then work with the creative team in the design and development of the product after the initial research has been carried out.

There will also be as many opportunities as you like to get involved in all other aspects of the business. We need you to plan, organise and run ethnography research, focus groups and concept feedback workshops both here in the UK and also with our primary market in the US. There are two research trips planned over the summer where we will have the opportunity to get conduct ethnography research with kids and then gain valuable insight from our early concepts.

thrive in ambiguity

The ideal candidate should have experience or some familiarity with:

leading design research processes
working alongside children within a design process
two plus years of design research experience
knowledge of wearable technology
