This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced communications manager to contribute to the strategic planning, initiation, development and management of communications for the Architecture Design Fashion team. The successful candidate will be required to support high-quality, strategic Architecture Design Fashion programmes in order to meet specific regional requirements and support the British Council’s cultural relations objectives.
The successful candidate must:
work with Architecture Design Fashion, marketing, communications, digital and press teams across multiple locations to deliver a high quality Architecture Design Fashion communications strategy
have an excellent understanding of contemporary UK design and the ability to make critical judgments on works and projects within British Council programmes
develop our existing channels in order to increase impact, profile, and reach to audiences online and through social media.
Some of the main duties include:
producing and implementing a plan for the department’s communications, including website and social media platforms, to communicate the impact of our work, raise the profile of the British Council and grow our reach with a range of external stakeholders, partners and opinion-formers in the design sectors
maintaining extensive and up-to-date information about the sector, including a range of influencers, stakeholders and partners using agreed knowledge management systems and processes, so that the team is able to engage with them effectively and tailor communications which are impactful
providing proactive advice and support to colleagues, particularly overseas, to ensure locally developed and/or implemented projects and programmes have communications embedded within planning
building and maintaining effective relationships with internal partners and stakeholders, to ensure effective, integrated and joined-up delivery of portfolio goals in a complex matrix environment
ensuring projects and programmes adhere to all communication procedures
sharing knowledge, expertise and ideas to support senior managers and peers identifying and/or developing ways in which the Architecture Design Fashion team can make the most effective impact on the British Council’s cultural relations and commercial strategies
We require the successful candidate to:
have a good, wide knowledge of contemporary UK architecture, design and fashion and the ability to make critical judgements across different disciplines
have a track record in design or architecture communications and the ability to write effectively for a variety of different audiences
have a solid experience of content management and working with website developers and ability to identify opportunities for developing and delivering effective communications strategies using a variety of digital platforms
have a clear understanding of the theory and practice of growing the online reach of an organisation and experience devising and implementing a messaging framework
