You will be working for an extremely well-regarded and successful niche B2B publishing company, Medianett.
Medianett produces a range of online B2B titles, award ceremonies, industry events and exhibitons, and is currently looking for an experienced Magazine Editor to run a glossy, bimonthly print trade magazine.
The magazine is that of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) – an established trade organisation within the UK finance market. The magazine has been running for 5 years and produced in its entirety by Medianett for the past 12 months.
While the magazine has been run on a quarterly basis up until now, from 2016, it will be run bimonthly and will be extending to a monthly basis in 2017. Therefore Medianett is currently looking for a talented Editor to oversee each publication from start to finish on this growth journey.
The role is primarily office-based, but there will be opportunity to travel to meet clients.
The Role
Responsibility of setting and driving forward editorial policy and ensuring it is always maintained to the highest standard
Overseeing the layout, appearance and content of all articles
Plan, research and generate ideas for articles and assign them to the most relevant clients (these are members and Patrons of the NACFB)
Keeping up to date with new and emerging topics and market trends
Managing contributors and ensuring all copy deadlines are met
Managing the Sub Editor to make sure deadlines are met for print
Editing, subbing and noticing if articles need to be re-written by contributors in order to make them suited to house style
Overseeing artwork and design for all sections in the magazine
Collect and decide on all images and logos that are to be used within the magazine
Help come up with ideas for the front cover and cover story
Organise and run meetings with the editorial team to discuss the cover story and theme of the issue
Understanding and complying with media law and industry ethical guidelines
Sending out briefs and templates to contributors, which will include word count, deadline and writing style guidelines
Liaising with contributors on a regular basis
Booking in contributors
Proofreading all pages, including adverts, before going out to press (there is a sub-editor but you will have the final sign-off)
Raising the profile of the magazine and promoting it wherever possible
Assisting other staff and contributors to meet their deadlines
You will report into the Managing Director who oversees this project
The Candidate
Must have at least 2 years’ experience editing a monthly magazine
B2B experience is preferred
Degree-level qualification in either English or Journalism
A good command of English with strong writing and IT skills
Creative with a flair for style, design and aesthetics
An eye for detail
2 years’ subbing experience
An interest in commercial finance
An understanding of target audiences
Decision-making skills
Excellent planning and organisational skills
