Manager, The City Centre – New London Architecture – London, United Kingdom

New London Architecture, on behalf of the City of London Corporation, is looking to recruit a new manager for The City Centre – a dedicated commercial events venue in the heart of the City of London with a wider aim of promoting the Square Mile domestically and internationally.

The City Centre is a unique facility based within the historic Guildhall complex, which provides events facilities against a backdrop of changing exhibits, illustrating the unsurpassed heritage, present business offer and future plans of the Square Mile. At its heart is a giant 1:500-scale interactive model revealing recently completed and future developments that are changing the face of the city.

The centre provides fully equipped event spaces for hire both internally by the City of London Corporation and to external businesses and organisations. A boardroom, conference room and full catering facilities are available to support receptions, seminars and meetings. The wider aim of the facility is to assist the City Corporation in promoting the Square Mile and attracting inward investment from both domestic and international companies.

The manager of The City Centre is responsible for the commercial success, operation and promotion of the business, providing leadership and management of a small events team made up of two assistants. It is a new position and provides the opportunity to shape the future of the centre in its exciting next phase of development.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

responsibility for the smooth operation of a first-class events venue, including the development of new policies and procedures
development and implementation of a business development strategy to maximise new and existing events revenue potential
promotion and marketing of The City Centre as a unique events space for use by a wide cross-section of businesses and organisations
management and upkeep of the centre’s exhibition and event spaces, including overseeing updates to exhibition content, to ensure appropriate promotion of the City Corporation and its values, and the Square Mile generally
production and monitoring of accurate and clear budgeting and forecasting, with monthly and quarterly reporting to senior management at New London Architecture on targets, forecasts and secured revenue
regular liaison with and reporting to senior team at New London Architecture on programming and support
maintaining clear lines of communication and report to the City Property Advisory Team within the City Corporation
management of the centre’s relationship with its caterers and all other suppliers
identifying and developing strategic relationships with key businesses and organisations in the city and beyond

Required experience:

a minimum of three years events experience
proven track record in managing a team
experience in sales and developing new business
experience in building and managing budgets
marketing and promotion experience beneficial

Skills required:

personable, confident and outgoing with excellent face-to-face and written communication skills
team-building and leadership
confident working with a high degree of autonomy
ambitious with strong commercial acumen
comfortable communicating with senior representatives of client organisations, including the City of London Corporation
enthusiasm for leading a small team with huge potential

Salary £38,000 per annum.

Holiday 31 days per year including Bank Holidays and three days between Christmas and New Year. Your normal working week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday.
