Purpose of role

The Premier Christianity Magazine News and Features Journalist should maintain editorial content to the ethos, values and broad theological evangelical spectrum of Premier Christianity Magazine. For seven hours across the week of this full time position, the post holder will also work to produce news for immediate use on Premier Christian Radio and website. They will also manage the magazine’s news pages, adapting radio/web stories for use in the printed magazine format.

Main duties and responsibilities

Write the News pages in Premier Christianity Magazine and/or commission others to write these with the agreement of the Senior Editor. Any commissions for news to be 360 degree so that where possible it will include audio, web angles or web specific copy, and video as well as written copy for publication in printed and e-versions of Premier Christianity Magazine.
With other editorial staff, ensure timely despatch of good quality copy to design, proof pages and with the Senior Editor and Deputy Editor; write, edit and help sign off the magazine according to the agreed monthly deadlines and schedules.
Write news for broadcast on Premier Christian Radio and to place onto Premier websites [seven hours per week] while aiming to repurpose and adapt this material for use in Premier Christianity Magazine and other formats across Premier platforms.
Ensure editorial copy and images are provided in a timely manner each month to hit magazine production schedule deadlines.
Explore, contribute to and cooperate with cross platform interviews, presenting and editing with input to social media, and to do regular scheduling of content for blog posts.
Write one or more features a month for Premier Christianity Magazine as agreed with the Senior Editor.
In conjunction with other team members administer the blog pages of Premier Christianity ensuring relevant blogs are commissioned and published each week.
Attend where appropriate marketing or editorial meetings.
Represent the magazine at events, conferences and on air.
Sub edit copy for print and web formats.
Provide a short weekly written report to the Senior Editor highlighting significant meetings, decisions and other significant matters.
With the Senior Editor and Deputy Editor ensure that Premier Christianity Magazine editorial costs keep within budget.
Liaise with other staff to ensure that good administration of invoices, letters, emails, commissions and liaison between finance, advertising, web, radio, marketing and all other departments as well as key suppliers and clients are maintained.
Liaise regularly with the Senior Editor and Director of Content who should agree any changes to editorial policy and over major commissions, new projects, hiring of columnists, redesigns and any other significant content issues. At the monthly meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be agreed and reviewed.
Liaise with web editors and agree on editorial for web, ezine and other electronic/ digital formats

 Qualifications and skills

A successful track record in writing and editing, especially experience in news writing
Understanding of and ideally experience in working across media platforms
An understanding, knowledge and sympathy with Christian ministry
Professional journalism qualifications and understanding of media laws is preferable
Good computer literacy is essential and written and oral communication skills
Competent administration skills, multi-tasking, prioritising and organisational skills
Able to work using own initiative and manage other staff
Cross platform (radio, web and print) experience would be preferable
Places high value on a professional level editorial quality and service to all platform consumers

Person specification

A committed Christian and church member (A genuine Occupational Requirement under the Employment Equality (Religion and Belief) Regulation 2003 applies)
Comfortable working in a busy multi-media environment
The post-holder will work in a Christian environment.  Therefore it will be necessary for the post-holder to have respect for the Christian faith, its values and be in sympathy with our organisational aims.
