Financial News is looking for a reporter to cover one of the most important sectors of finance, pension funds and other long-term investment institutions.
Pension funds are being hit by rising longevity and buffeted by a torrent of regulatory changes. In the UK their funding shortfall is at its widest ever due to plunging interest rates. Meanwhile governments are keen for them to fund infrastructure projects to take the pressure off public budgets. This all adds up to a dynamic news agenda with lots of scope both to break news, but also to analyse the big picture.
The reporter will be part of Financial News’s five-strong asset management team, and the role would suit a versatile journalist who can break regular, exclusive news both in print and online, while simultaneously juggling a busy features schedule. The role offers occasional opportunities to contribute to FN’s sister publication, the Wall Street Journal.
Regular duties include breaking daily news stories on-line, researching and writing weekly features and analysis pieces, working with the Special Reports team on quarterly pensions and asset management feature-specials, and conference reporting. FN doesn’t write press-release journalism – we always aim to add to the sum of reader knowledge, whether through exclusive breaking news, analysis or expert commentary.
The role is likely to suit an ambitious and competitive individual with at least three years of reporting or editing experience in a role covering pension funds and/or asset management. The best-suited candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate a strong track history of breaking exclusive news stories on the patch, with a long list of contacts among pension funds and the asset management industry. Knowledge and contacts in the insurance industry and/or sovereign wealth funds, in addition, would be a big plus.
Around 250,000 people a month visit FN’s web site, and we print around 20,000 copies of our weekly all-colour A3 newspaper each week. Our readers not only include a huge audience in asset management and pensions but regulators and government officials.
To apply please send a CV and brief covering letter to Mark Cobley, Asset Management Editor, Financial News, at recruit002@dowjones.com no later than Friday 27th February 2015
