Practice Manager – Mackenzie Wheeler Architects & Designers – Shoreditch, London, United Kingdom

Mackenzie Wheeler Architects + Designers was established as a partnership in 1986 by Rupert Wheeler and Duncan Mackenzie. The practice operates from their East London premises and comprises 15 staff with a range of architectural, technical, interior design and project management skills.

The practice specialises in public places, whether they be interiors, buildings, landscapes or cities. Our creative work ranges from the “micro” of bespoke furniture to the “macro” of new buildings and master-planning. The vehicle for this work combines two distinct but complementary sectors, the hospitality and leisure sector and the education sector, which the practice has developed in tandem for creative and commercial reasons.

The practice is seeking a practice manager to join its Shoreditch studio. Ideally having experience within architecture or the creative industries the successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day running of the office, including management of the reception desk, all aspects of office administration, and be instrumental in financial matters, including client invoicing, purchase ledger and financial reporting.

Duties will include:

finance administration – processing and following up client invoices, financial reporting, maintaining financial records and systems, purchase order administration, controlling studio expenditure, managing third party and supplier relationships for goods and services coming into the practice
front of house and reception management
office and facilities management – stationery and suppliers, managing cleaning contractors, office administration including mail handling and forwarding, project filing, ISO 9001 administration, diary management
coordinating team and management meetings and minutes
supporting the partners and associates with ad-hoc administrative tasks
supporting IT and HR associates with ad-hoc tasks
other tasks as required

Potential candidates should be degree educated, and preference will be given to those with experience in studio/practice management, particularly with a background in finance administration and reporting. You must be professional, personable, enthusiastic and embrace challenge.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and circa £30-35,000 with 20 days annual leave per annum in addition to statutory days. A contributory pension scheme will be offered in due course.
