Digital Health Intelligence Limited is looking for reporter to make their mark on www.digitalhealth.net – our online news service devoted to developments in health and social care computing and the healthcare IT industry in the UK.
You will be given the opportunity to work your own ‘patch’ while contributing to our award-winning news and feature coverage and online debate. You will also be able to develop your social media skills by running a Twitter account and helping us find new ways to reach our professional audience.
You may be a reporter looking to make a move onto a title with daily deadlines. Or you may be a graduate or NCTJ certificate holder looking for a first break in journalism. In either case, good news sense, good basic skills and attention to detail are the key qualities required.
However, as a publication dedicated to healthcare, we need someone who can get to grips with the politics and management of the NHS. And as a publication dedicated to technology, we need someone with an enthusiasm for computers, software, mobile devices, apps and new technology of all kinds.
In return, we offer a full-time position in a London-based company, headed by experienced journalists, dealing with subjects that are followed closely by the national media.
If you are interested, visit www.digitalhealth.net to find out more about what we do.
Then send a CV and a short letter outlining why you are the right person for this job to: Lyn Whitfield, managing editor, Digital Health Intelligence Limited: lyn@digitalhealth.net.
Person specification
We require a reporter with a keen instinct for a good, off-diary story and the tenacity to follow it through, plus the ability to deal with press releases and similar material quickly.
Strong journalism and IT skills, including interviewing, note-taking and news writing, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and online publishing systems, are required.
Strong digital and social media skills are also essential. Using Facebook is not enough; you should have a good grasp of the field and its application to journalism, as well as ideas about how it might be used in our sector.
An interest in politics, an understanding of how the NHS is organised, and some familiarity with our subject matter is desirable. Basic knowledge will be tested at interview.
A real interest in technology – computers, mobiles, devices, software and apps – is essential. Basic knowledge will be tested at interview.
The postholder will be required to travel outside the office, mostly within the UK.
You must also able to demonstrate a legal right to work in the UK.
Job description
The post-holder will be responsible for:
Making a substantial contribution to the news coverage – meeting daily deadlines and opening up new patches and sectors.
Contributing to our feature coverage.
Contributing to community content, and running a Twitter stream.
Contributing ideas for diary items and editorial comment for our daily digests and weekly newsletters.
Contributing ideas for our network events and other editorial developments.
Initially, we will expect the post-holder to work under close supervision. However, we are looking for someone with the potential to rapidly develop their own areas of interest and to step up into a more senior role.
