Sketch Modelshop Technician – Foster + Partners – London, United Kingdom

We are currently looking for a sketch modelshop technician to join our in house modelshop department.

The position is responsible for assisting architects in the production of high quality sketch models, mock-ups, preparation of exhibitions and presentation material.

You should be able to work independently and as a part of an effective team. This position requires a high degree of responsibility, discretion and confidentiality.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

ensure the architects workshop is used safely and kept tidy by all, within H&S requirements
ordering and re-stocking tools/materials within assigned areas of responsibility and assist with unloading and promptly storing daily deliveries (sometimes heavy) to the workshop
complete routine and non-routine checking, maintenance, calibration and cleaning of tools and equipment
induct/train/teach staff in correct use of facilities
help staff make the best use of materials and equipment
conduct tutorials/workshop demonstrations on a regular basis
assist with fabricating model elements on all sketch and main modelshop machinery
assist with the safe lifting and moving of models within the office campus

Qualities and skills required:

previous workshop experience with ability to teach others how to use the workshop’s machinery. This should include hand tools, hot wire cutters and laser cutters. Previous experience using a Zund machine will be advantageous
able to read architectural drawings
model making experience
able to work independently and as part of an effective team, assisting, supporting and sharing knowledge and skills with team members and users of the workshop
flexible and positive attitude, willingness to assist others and learn new skills
