Jason Bruges is creative director of Jason Bruges Studio, which he founded in April 2002. He leads a pioneering team of architects, lighting designers, electrical engineers, programmers, visualisers, industrial designers and mechanical engineers to design and build interactive installations across three key sectors – art, architecture, and brand experience. The design studio and in-house workshop is based in Old Street, London and works on projects across the world.

Job overview

This role is something akin to air traffic control. You’ll need to maintain an overview and a keen eye for each of the projects – knowing who is on each team, what are they working on, what they need, when the deadlines are and what the deliverables are. You will need to ensure there are suitable and functional levels of resource on each project, and feed info back into the management team, so that projects can be lean, fit and efficient in order to improve our profitability. A sense of resilience and humour are a must. We approach everything we do with exploration and excitement – we need our studio manager to help keep us real, whilst maintaining this enthusiasm.

Key responsibilities

resource management: ensuring the correct amount of resource is allocated to each project and that projects are time managed efficiently
human resource management: holidays, recruitment, contracts, freelance terms and any other related HR issues
time management: making sure timelines are adhered to and work is produced to deadlines
team management: making sure the studio team of 10 plus is engaged, motivated and inspired
team communications: making sure the team is on the same page, running efficient meetings and providing clear status reports
supporting the creative director: making sure the team is in the best position to deliver against the creative vision of the business
supporting the managing director: making sure the studio team is best placed to help meet the operational goals of the business
supporting the finance function: coordinating fee proposals and timely billing with the project leads

Required experience

significant creative practice management experience: ideally having experience as a studio manager in an architectural practice or a digital agency or a similar environment
excellent line management experience with time and performance management skills
sound operational expertise: with demonstrable experience in developing procedures
financial experience: understanding of budgeting and forecasting
