UK Sport is leading the drive to create British champions, in our role as the nation’s high performance sports agency responsible for investing in our brightest medal hopes. UK Sport’s investment played a pivotal role in delivering the amazing success achieved by British athletes at the London Olympic and Paralympics Games. Our targets for Rio are even more ambitious.
UK Sport is seeking to appoint an Independent Audit Committee Member to act as a member of the Audit Committee, responsible for overseeing effective auditing, financial reporting, internal controls and risk management within UK Sport and its subsidiary, the English Institute of Sport (EIS).
Are you CCAB/CIMA qualified (or equivalent), with experience of working at a senior level in either a commercial or public-sector environment and with recent experience of audit, risk management and corporate governance?
Are you committed to UK Sport’s mission and values and able to work in a way that demonstrates this commitment and to communicate this enthusiasm to others?
Can you demonstrate an understanding of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of both the Committee and UK Sport/EIS’s Boards?
Are you a good communicator with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, objective and independent and able to challenge supportively?
Are you free from any close connection to UK Sport, the EIS or any other wider sporting landscape partner (including the National Governing Bodies for sports) and able and willing to devote the necessary time to the role?

If successful, you will:
oversee all systems, controls and processes that may have an impact on UK Sport/EIS’s ability to deliver their strategy.
review the respective annual financial report and accounts before submission to the UK Sport and EIS Boards to ensure that:
effective audit functions are in place (both internal and external);
appropriate risk management processes are in place;
the necessary internal control environment is established and adhered to; and that;
the organisation functions within the legal and financial principles of Managing Public Money.
