Calthorpe Academy is an all age (2-19 years) Special School, with a 19-25 provision attached, catering for 385 students with Severe, Profound/ Multiple Learning Difficulties, Autism and Challenging Behaviour. The school is looking to recruit outstanding leaders to support our increasing school population. In recent years, we have carefully and meticulously created an exceptional building with facilities that stimulate and challenge our young people and wider community.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher with the ability, experience and skills to play a pivotal role in maximising the learning potential of students, your vision and direction will lead continuous improvement and raise standards in the core subjects across the Academy.
You will lead and teach within one of the Core Curriculum subject areas of Math’s, English or Science across the full age and disability range of our students.
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to complement our SMT who has the ability to evaluate and assess provision with the capacity to carry through objectives to fruition. Our philosophy has always been to take on challenges and experiment, enabling our colleagues to develop skills, which make them exceptional practitioners who can continually enhance the curricular opportunities for our pupils.
The development of co-ordination of new initiatives, and maintaining the very best working practices, will be your priority ensuring that our students receive outstanding teaching that enables all students to realise their potential.
You will collaborate with our core subject specialists, our ICT and Data Manager, ensuring that we provide an exciting and visionary curriculum that clearly identifies progress and areas for improvement.
You will play an important role within our Teaching School Alliance supporting partner schools in their endeavor to achieve outstanding practice. CPD will be your focus in whole school staff development.
Our international collaboration, supported by the British Council, includes numerous projects in China, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Jamaica and our European Comenius Partners. These projects involve reciprocal travel opportunities for both staff and pupils enabling exciting options that enhance our curricular delivery.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a budget, the identification of new resources and the monitoring of their successful use. Line Management responsibility will encompass collaborative management of a team of learning mentors and department liaison with Heads of Department regarding the deployment of TAs.
