Editor, Maternity Cover – H2O Publishing – Gravesend, Kent, England

H2O Publishing is looking for an Editor for two of its popular monthly foodservice titles, EDUcatering and TUCO magazines.

The position offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of food and drink, targeting readers working in the most dynamic industry of hospitality and catering.

H2O Publishing produces 14 publications, of which EDUcatering and TUCO are two of its core titles. EDUcatering is the only monthly publication specifically catering to the school meals market, an industry that is never out of the limelight due to political interventions of Universal Infant Free School Meals and school food standards. TUCO is the monthly membership magazine for The University Caterers Organisation, encompassing everything from campus café outlets to large-scale fine dining events at some of the world’s most historic institutions.

The position will involve:

Overseeing the day-to-day running of the magazines
Editing, writing and commissioning content for the magazines
Interviews and feature writing
Budget control and ensuring each magazine goes to print on deadline
Writing news for the EDUcatering website and running the EDUcatering Twitter account
Helping to organise events and providing events coverage for both titles, including chef competitions, magazine awards and one-day conferences
Attending industry events and representing the magazines at awards dinners, conferences and press days

The position requires someone who will be able to take ownership of the two titles, has confidence in editing, budgeting, a keen eye for detail and working to tight deadlines. Communication skills are a must – the candidate must be able to liaise with clients, freelancers and the wider industry in a professional and approachable manner.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has headed up a section desk such as features editor, and is ready for their next step up. No experience of foodservice/hospitality is required, but experience of writing for B2B titles is preferred. A basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign is required.

The role will start on 1st February until 1st September, with the possibility to extend beyond this date.
