Education Officer – Wigan Athletic Community Trust

Job Description
Job Role: To deliver education activities for young people between the ages of 13 and 21 on behalf of Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours a week including evening and weekend working.

Contract: 11 months (subject to funding)

    Key Responsibilities:

• To provide mentoring and educational support to a cohort of 8 learners enrolled onto a distance learning Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching with the University of South Wales

• Support the delivery of the Trust’s post 16 education offer including BTEC Level 2 and 3 sports programmes

• Assist in the running of business and enterprise lessons for 13 – 16 year olds on a Premier League funded initiative

• Ensuring all lessons, including the Planning, Preparation and Assessment of, are delivered to the standard required by funding partners and external verifiers

• To work with the Head of Community to identify potential funding and project opportunities within the area of 14 – 16 and post 16 education

• Ensuring all project partners are kept informed on progress of learners and that all monitoring and evaluation reports are completed on time.

• To represent Wigan Athletic Community Trust at stakeholder and community meetings across Wigan and on occasion at a regional and national level

• To ensure all activities are correctly monitored with the appropriate risk assessments and health and safety procedures put in place

• To be a flexible member of the Wigan Athletic Community Trust team and when requested assist in the delivery of other projects and activities including evenings and weekends

    Key Skills

• Ability to motivate teach and coach hard to engage/challenging young people

• Project Management skills and the ability to manage budgets

• The ability to create and manage local partnerships

• Experience in sports coaching to young people of all abilities and experience

• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

• Good organisational and prioritising skills

    Essential Requirements

• Educated to degree standard (or equivalent) and completion of PGCE (or equivalent)

• Experience of working in a primary and secondary school education environment

    Desirable Requirements

• A1 Assessors Award

• A minimum of 12 months experience of teaching Level 2 and Level 3 Sports based qualifications

• FA Level 2 Coaching Award

• Level 1 Coaching Award in one or more sports other than football

• Full clean driving license
