The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), an interdisciplinary Science & Industry based charity, is seeking to recruit an interim Executive Director to lead the organisation during the coming year. The position will be for a 9 month period in the first instance with the potential for a further extension, subject to satisfactory performance.
General description of the post We are seeking to recruit an individual who can optimise the day-to-day operations and the public/wider impact of SCI. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills.
The post would benefit from a candidate with experience of the charity sector in association with and an understanding of the Science Sectors. The successful candidate would be expected to manage the organisation and its 20 staff on a day-to-day basis whilst working closely with the Board of Trustees (BoT), to review the structure of the organisation and the delivery of its charitable objectives. The role will also require the ability to interact effectively with BoT advisory committees, the wider SCI Membership and collaborating external organisations.

This is a full time position. The post will be based in SCI’s headquarters at 14/15 Belgrave Square, SW1X 8PS.

Evidence of successful leadership and general management experience of commercial, academic and/or not-for-profit organisation(s)
Experience of effective leadership of a senior management team
Experienced in human resources management and working knowledge of charity and governance laws and best practice
Proven networking ability with experience of interaction with senior figures in industry, academia, government and business in general
An individual with sufficiently robust nature and character to be able to inform, influence, debate and challenge SCI Trustees, members and external contacts
Ability to draw on experience to advise and work with Trustees in respect of evolving BoT strategies and agendas
Knowledge of and/or interest in science and its applications.
