Hours: 6 hours per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings)
Fight for Peace is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Lead Coach role at our community-based sports and education youth Academy within the Borough of Newham. Fight for Peace invests in the potential of young people with the hardest to reach being actively targeted and supported via Fight for Peace’s holistic youth provision which ensures that young people receive a range of support including: Boxing and Martial Arts (B&MA), Education, Employability, Support Services, and Youth Leadership.
Reporting directly to the Sports Coordinator, the Boxing Lead Coach will plan, lead, manage and deliver Boxing classes at Fight for Peace’s London Academy. The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Work closely with the other FFP boxing coaches and Sports Coordinator to assist in the development and implementation of FFP Sports Performance Strategy;
• Work closely with the other FFP boxing coaches and Sport Coordinator to design and implement high-quality periodised training and competition programmes for all competing FFP boxers;
• Provide coaching to all participants in FFP boxing sessions on a group and individual basis across male, female and from novice to elite standard;
• Manage and oversee all boxing sessions to ensure plans are adhered to by coaches and participants;
• Monitor training sessions and provide regular updates to the Sport Coordinator on individual boxers’ performance in training and competition;
• Utilise partnerships with British Olympic Association and National Governing Bodies to ensure that all FFP boxing members benefit from sport science support;
• Deliver values-led sessions;
• Support and co-deliver Personal Development life skills sessions ensuring the participation of all boxing sports staff and boxing participants;
• Working alongside the Youth Workers, support youth engagement of FFP members into Boxing sessions;
• Support communications team to highlight athletic success internally;
• Ensure safeguarding and child protection policies are adhered to by the boxing team and immediately report any concerns to the Welfare Office/Deputy Welfare Officer;
• Attend FFP sports and awards events;
• Participate in FFP Team Days and other training opportunities;
• Other relevant duties as and when required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
– Level 2 England Boxing (ABAE) coaching qualification (or higher)
– Proven experience as a amateur Boxer
– Proven track record in developing national boxing champions at any level
– Ability to vary coaching approach to nurture and consistently develop the very best performances from both male and female boxers across the 14 to 25 age range
– Ability to support young people to make behavioural changes that have a positive impact on performance
– Experience in leading boxing programmes either divisionally, regionally or nationally
– Good understanding of issues surrounding youth involvement in offending, violent behaviour and gangs within inner-city areas in the UK
– Team player
– Flexibility and adaptability
– Proven leadership and decision-making skills
– Excellent planning and organisational skills
– Excellent communication and inter-personal skills at all levels
– Committed to continuous personal improvement
– Excellent time-keeping and organisational skills
– Computer literate with good presentation skills
