Holywell Middle School is a very popular and highly regarded school. Parental satisfaction with the school, as shown once again in the annual parent survey is very strong. Given the pressure on places at Holywell, the school was allocated £850,000 in January 2014 to increase its capacity. This has seen the school grow from 475 pupils in January 2013 to over 600 pupils in September 2015. When the next phase of house building in the area comes on line the school will receive significant additional funding to grow its size to 720 pupils.
Pupils at Holywell attain excellent results and leave the school at the end of year 8 with results significantly better than national average in year 9. Mathematics results through to year 8 are especially notable. Holywell pupils have been taking formal test assessments (allied to historical SATs KS3) in May of year 8. The school is now moving to using the GL Progress Tests to give challenge and security of measurement. Currently we have this data on years 5 and 6. From 2016 we will have this data on every pupil in every year group each year to inform our analysis of the quality of progress Holywell pupils are making.
Mathematics at Holywell is taught by a team of specialist teachers. (September 2015 marks the completion of this programme where every Maths lesson in the school is taught by a member of the team.) This gives this area of the curriculum a great level of cohesion and team work in its high quality delivery. The department has six dedicated classrooms.
