Learning Beyond the Classroom Coordinator – BSIX Brooke House Sixth Form College – Hackney

BSix is a comprehensive sixth form college set up in 2002 to raise the aspirations and achievements of young people in the East End of London. The College is increasing in popularity and gaining recognition for its pioneering work. We have Investors in Careers status and our professional development programme, ‘a university for teachers’, was granted an AOC Beacon award in 2010. We have won the London Education Partnership Awards for three years running, and were given TES FE awards for our Marketing/Communications Team and Outstanding Provider of the Year in 2011. The ‘Raising Aspirations’ programme – working with universities across the UK – was awarded the 2012 TES FE Award for Outstanding Innovation in Teaching, Training, or Learning Provision. The judges said the programmes had ‘really broken the mould.’

The East End Classics Centre exists within BSix as a hub for the teaching and study of Classics in Hackney and surrounding boroughs. It was established in 2013 and organises events for students and professional development for teachers. In order to organise such events, the Centre and its Coordinators work closely with Classics charities, a network of volunteers, and local universities. The Coordinator’s office is based in the College’s Red Room, through which students can access the College’s Library of the Ancient World.

The post of BSix Classics Centre Co-ordinator is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months’ duration in the first instance, organising academic events for students of BSix and other schools and colleges.

The role will primarily deal with Classical, Historical, and Political subjects, including History, Politics, Ancient History, and Archaeology, with the possibility of extending into Anthropology, English Literature, Ancient Greek, and Latin.
